End of Term, Merry Christmas!

Today saw the last day of academic term at The Polygon so we finished off with our traditional  "Christmas Deal or No Deal Assembly".

We were joined by our host "Ben Edmunds" and Year 10 pupil Fred Sims was the lucky player picked to play for a possible £20! The whole school joined in playing along and encouraging Fred and there was an exciting and intense atmosphere in the hall.

In the end Fred made a deal with The Banker and went home with £13.24. Well done Fred!











There was lots more to celebrate at the end of this term and prizes to be given...

Mr Tunkara and Steve Bollon from the Saints Foundation gave prizes to pupils who had been consistent attenders and performed well in the after school box fit club.

Tom Hammond in Year 11 won the shield for the Christmas badminton tournament. Plus the Christmas raffle was drawn. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and well done to those who won!

There were certificates and rewards for pupils who had achieved 90% and 100% attendance this term.

And to finish of this term the Doddle cup went to 3HI, the best attendance cup to 3LB and the most improved attendance to 4CM.

Congratulations to all pupils for their achievements this term! Keep it up!

Everyone enjoyed our celebration assembly and after lunch and a final game of football, all the boys were waved off with a hearty and energetic whole staff team tunnel :)

Fishing Boat Trip

On Thursday 15th, we concluded this terms fishing season with a trip on a sea fishing boat.
7 pupils from across the school, who had shown good behaviour and been keen, consistent fishermen were lucky enough to join this trip.

We set off in the morning from Lymington with our captain Arthur and our coaches Mike and Rod.

First we had a safety briefing from the captain, learning the rules of the boat and our plan for the day.

Then it was out to sea, the boat went quite fast and it was a bit of a bumpy journey so we all had to hold on tight.

 













It was then time to get fishing. When we sea fish we use bigger hooks and lines so Mike talked the pupils through the equipment we were using and how the rods and rigs are set up.

The fish started reeling in, we had pout, big whiting and dogfish- which is a type of shark!

If the fish were a certain size the pupils could take them home, so they were gutted and filleted on board and sealed in bas for that nights dinner.

Though the fishing was going well the sea was very rocky and this didn't agree with some of the boys stomachs so with a few white faces, we moved on to calmer waters.

Spencer showed great interest in the navigation and even had a go at driving the boat.

On our journey we saw lots of geographical landmarks, like The Needles, Hurst castle and Fort Victoria.

 It was tough work as the fish were a lot bigger and the lines heavier so the pupils really worked hard and sometimes had to work together in order to reel in their catches.

After successful fishing and warming refreshments it was time to head back.

 

 

All the pupils agreed they'd had a great time on the fishing trip and despite a bit of sea sickness had enjoyed their day on the boat.

 
We'd like to say a huge thank you to Arthur, our captain for inviting us onto your boat, and as always to our brilliant coaches Mike and Rod from Warren Boat angling club. The staff and pupils of The Polygon really appreciated this opportunity!

Christmas Dinner!

Today as part of our final week festive celebrations The Polygon School held our annual Christmas Dinner.

The pupils and staff gathered in the hall which was beautifully decorated including centre pieces made by students in CDT with Mr Hughs.

We all enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal prepared and served by the staff. Many of the boys tried foods they had never had before such as Brussels sprouts and Christmas pudding.

It was lovely to be joined by friends, governors, past staff and students and share our meal and conversation with each other.

We were even lucky enough to be joined by a special visitor in a red suit who had presents to hand out to all the pupils.

It was very exciting and great fun to give and receive many cards and presents.

 Everyone agreed it was a brilliant day, with lots of fun had by all.
