On Wednesday we had our Christmas lunch at The Polygon. Lunch was prepared by staff and the boys sat in their tutor groups opening their presents from Santa and reading all of their cards until lunch was ready. Santa this year was an ex-pupil who had left in July so we were all so pleased to see him and grateful that he came in and helped us out.

Mr Harvey and the MoHo Team worked really hard on some improvements at the allotment this term in preparation for the cold and rainy months ahead. After clearing and moving some things around we decided to build a shelter.
Many of the pupils got involved with helping to prepare the space and build the shelter, which now makes the allotment weather friendly all year round!
This week and next we will be baking Christmas themed items in cookery lessons, activities and after school club. Here are some of 3DRB’s wonderful creations-I think “Patrick Star” from SpongeBob is super cool!
Last week we put the Christmas tree up in 3JG. The boys really enjoyed doing this, and so did Mr.Raph! Next week we will have our Christmas lunch and annual game of Deal or no Deal so keep an eye on our blogs!
Our school dog Finn is a very much loved, and huge part of The Polygon. I think I can safely say that all the boys and staff love having him around. He is so well behaved in lessons and when being walked at break and lunchtime, and has a very calming effect on the pupils.
We love you Finny and wanted to show you our appreciation for your hard work everyday!
Yesterday 4CM tried cheese tasting in their cookery lesson. As you can see from the first 3 photos-the blue cheese did not go down well! However, we were very impressed at the boys willingness to try new things. Well done boys!
In conjunction with the 'Wetwheels' charity based in Hamble, 6 lucky pupils took to the Solent last Thursday in the hunt for some fish. Pupils showed good resilience as they braved the cold weather and tried their hand at a new activity.
The largest fish onboard was the eel, we had two of these wiggly, slippery fish. These fish can grow over a metre long! Eels are now on the endangered species list and therefore also returned to the sea.
Well done to all the boys for showing great resilience on what was a cold and bumpy day. You would have not guessed that they had not fished before, and by the end of the session some were even baiting up their own lines. Thankyou 'Wetwheels' for giving us such a great experience.
Touching the Void
KS4 pupils have been reading and working on the book "Touching the Void". They have been getting to know the characters and writing diary entries as if they were "Simon and Joe", comparing the two characters and how they are presented in the book, and practicing exam questions. They have also been using Venn diagrams to help them compare characters which is cross-curricular learning.
Below are some photos of their work. Some pupils have finished their diary entries and some are a yet to be completed but all are excellent examples of the boys hard work!
This week in after school club (ASC) we made a very American recipe-Jello Cookies! This is a recipe we have not make before but it worked so well we decided to do it in Activities on Friday too.
The cookies smelt and tasted like Angel Delight and everyone loved them! I have attached the recipe at the bottom of this blog is you fancy making these at home. Like all cookies, I think they would be lovely warmed up with some ice-cream!
This week we had a bit of a mixed week, with cinema trips going out over 3 days, swimming and forest schools all going on! As a result, we were in our tutor groups some mornings. Miss Long thought it would be a nice change if she brought her waffle maker into school and 3JG had waffles for breakfast on Wednesday-so that’s what we did! It was a bit spontaneous so next time I bring the waffle maker in I will make sure to get some fruit to go with them!
Today year 7 made fruity flapjacks in their cookery lesson. Some of the boys chose to add fruit such as raisins and dried apricots, and some chose to make plain flapjacks. Below are some photos I snapped of 3LBH making theirs.

We are very excited to be given the opportunity for our pupils to do some volunteering and work experience at the train station. Last week pupils from 4NA went down to the station to pick which platform they would like to take responsibility for and start to think about what they would like to do down there to improve their chosen platform. We have also taken responsibility for one of the flowerbed areas at the front of the station at platform 4.
The boys chose platform 4 and they had lots of suggestions for the team at the station! They suggested making new planters, planting new plants, decorating for Christmas, cleaning, painting and even doing a mural on one of the walls!
Keep an eye on our blog for more updates as we progress with this new project. I really can’t wait to see what the pupils do to improve our community.
Last week the whole school enjoyed making Halloween biscuits. We do this every year and it’s something that the boys really look forward to. For KS3 we make the dough in advance so that the boys can just cut the shapes they want, bake, and decorate. KS4 made their dough in their first lesson of the week and they baked and decorated in the second lesson.

Congratulations to 3NT who were this year’s winners!
Recently, 4PR, 4NA and 4CM were all invited on a trip to the Southampton No Limits hub based at 13 The High Street.
No Limits is an independet charity organisation that offer information, advice, support and counselling for Young People across a huge spectrum of issues they may be facing; from sexual health, relationships, mental health. housing, debt and employment.
On the trip, the boys spoke to the staff at the hub and had a chance to look around the facilities to familiarise themselves in case they ever need to access the services in the future. The hardest part is often walking though the door for thr first time.
We very much look forward to continuing our working relationship with No Limits in 2024-2025.
