Lifting and Shifting at Polygon 

September 2026 saw the new wave of Polygon boys using the weights room and having a chance to experience success and how to lift heavy weights correctly as well as learn how to "spot" for others to help them keep safe and share the responsibility around the group.

The boys have loved the chance to do something a bit different and try and get themselves on the Wall of Fame to show off their PBs-well done boys.

Currently, we have Callum in Year 11 who has been lifting outside of school at Lakeside Weightlifting Club in Eastleigh who is helping the boys and acting as a fantastic role model. We also are having a lot of talent in the lower years starting to come through with one of Year 8s Keegan lifting as much as some of our Year 11s.

Engagement Pathway Boys at The Boat Show

 A group of the pupils on the Engagement Pathway took a walk down to Mayflower Park to visit Southampton Boat Show last week. 

The boys had a look around some different boats - including a Royal Navy ship, and had a chance to look at some Bentleys too. 

The group did well as typically they are timetabled as 121, so this was a big success for our Engagement Pathway boys! :)

Today we held our election for Head Boy in school. We had a fantastic and enthusiastic turnout from the whole school community, including our remote voting form a group on their school residential trip.

When the results were counted we were proud to announce in assembly our Head Boy and our two Deputy Head Boys.

We are sure they will set a great example for themselves and the other pupils in school as well as being good role models to the younger pupils in school.

This week the class were invited to the Southampton Boat Show. The pupils represented themselves and the school with excellent manners and conversation skills.

We looked a a variety of boats, Bentley cars, sea planes and engaged in kayaking with Rockley Paddlesports and Scuba Diving with Adnark.

Today is a big day for our school community. All pupils will head to the polling station to vote for who they want to represent them as Head Boy.

Results will follow soon for our 2026 - 27 Head Boy and Deputy Head Boy election.

3DRB and 3GR at the Boatshow

Southampton Boatshow

This year 3DRB joined forces with 3GR in attending Southampton Boatshow. There was lots to see and do this year and the students, from both classes, engaged with a variety of activities, stalls and learnt about the different jobs that are within the maritime industry. The students enjoyed their day and had lots of fun collecting free goodies.  Some of the activities included: 

                                                                      - Paddleboarding.

- Kyaking.

- Exploring the Tectona.

- Diving in a tank.

- Learning how anchors work. 

- Talking to the coastguard.

- Plus many more. 

Boxing on the Engagement Pathways

 Pupils on the Engagement Pathways have the opportunity to do boxing as part of their timetables. Pupils work with professional coaches at either Southampton ABC in Sholing, or Golden Ring in Millbrook.

As well as being a fantastic way of getting fitter, boxing training can also significantly improve mental health by reducing anxiety and providing a healthy, focused outlet for stress.

Boxing is a popular part of the Engagement Pathways timetables, and pupils who attend are also able to gain AQA accredited boxing qualifications.

Year 9 Citizenship

 

Year 9 Citizenship

This term the Year 9 pupils have started Citizenship by looking at Democracy and how our country is run.

As part of this both groups played the 'Government Game'. Each pupils held a role in government and had to negotiate for a department budget with one pupil acting as the Chancellor allocating budgets. They needed to balance the books, negotiate and even debate raising taxes to pay for everything, or reducing budgets and cutting back. 

All pupils engaged well and had a taste of how hard it is to allocate money, increase taxes or tell people there is not enough money to go around.

​We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate our very own Head of Kitchen, Kelly Crow, on winning Secondary School of the Year 2026!

 

​Kelly’s journey in catering began 12 years ago when she started as a Kitchen Assistant at Oakwood Primary. Her dedication and talent saw her progress rapidly, leading her to become Polygon School’s Head of Kitchen in 2024.

 

​Kelly is an incredibly valued member of our staff. Warm, accommodating, and highly competent, she brilliantly manages one of the most vital roles in our school.

​

Allotment Transformation!

Summer is here and things are thriving at the allotment!!! There have been so many updates in the last few months which have really made a difference to the space. 

Mr Harvey and various staff and pupils have been involved in the installation of the new polytunnel. This has been a huge project and has really taken efforts from the Allotment team and pupils to get it up in time to get planting before the Summer Holidays. 

Miss Thom conducted a whole school survey, to really get some feedback and understand how the allotment makes our pupils feel and how this resource has been helpful. There is a display of the results in the shelter. This has also tied in with year 2 of TAAES (a project designed to help schools become more inclusive, nurturing and responsive to the needs of children who have experienced trauma or have attachment-related challenges)

Fruit and vegetables plants are thriving in the sunshine. and the number of bees and wildlife you can see on the wild flower bed is amazing! 

When starting their journey with us, 3JG planted some sunflowers in their tutor room and as they will be moving up to year 8 , it was time to let the sunflowers grow out in the wild. These have been planted at the back of the wild flower bed and will hopefully continue to grow. 

It's been really great to see pupils from the Classroom Based Pathway & Engagement Pathway utilise the allotment for some lovely outside time and a change of scenery whilst the sun has been out. This has all again reflected the work in the TAEES project. 

In memory of our dearly missed Jane Brobson, we have added a bench which overlooks the whole patch so staff and pupils can remember her and have a lovely place to sit and admire the hard work which has gone into the allotment, and are always welcome to sit and reflect. 

Year 8 War Poems.

 War Poems. 

This half-term year 8 have been looking at World War 1 and poetry. They have started learning to analyse poetry using the acronym FLIRT, and applied it to small poems.  Alongisde this they have all done deep dives into WW1, the impact of it and various key events that happened. To finish the unit, both classes have written a poem each about war, which they are all proud of. 

 

Diversity Day 2026

 

Despite the heat it was amazing to see the whole staff team and pupils out in the sunshine smiling, dancing, enjoying ice poles, and playing with bubbles and just being united after break today. We are so proud of our school community everyday but today was special! 

We had a lovely speech given to us from our lovely Headteacher Mr penfold, which detailed what Diversity Day means to The Polygon and highlighted how important it is to accept others. 

Diversity day is about celebrating the amazing diversity in our school community and celebrating all the wonderful complexities of people that make us individuals. The rainbow flag may represent the LGBTQ+ community but pride is so much more. Pride celebrates all types of diversity. All races, religions, disabilities, genders, identities and socio-economic backgrounds.
