Diversity Day 2026

 

Despite the heat it was amazing to see the whole staff team and pupils out in the sunshine smiling, dancing, enjoying ice poles, and playing with bubbles and just being united after break today. We are so proud of our school community everyday but today was special! 

We had a lovely speech given to us from our lovely Headteacher Mr penfold, which detailed what Diversity Day means to The Polygon and highlighted how important it is to accept others. 

Diversity day is about celebrating the amazing diversity in our school community and celebrating all the wonderful complexities of people that make us individuals. The rainbow flag may represent the LGBTQ+ community but pride is so much more. Pride celebrates all types of diversity. All races, religions, disabilities, genders, identities and socio-economic backgrounds. 

Pride is a celebration of love

All people have the right to be treated equally and be respected no matter what background they come from and that is what Pride is a celebration of.

Diversity Day 2024!

It was amazing to see the whole staff team and pupils out in the sunshine smiling, dancing, playing drums, singing and walking around the playground united after break today. We are so proud of our school community everyday but today was special! 

A massive well done to Alex for addressing the whole school while reading a speech detailing what Diversity Day means to The Polygon. Thank you to Mr T for bringing in your drums and leading the singing.

Anti-Bullying Week

 

Anti-Bullying Week 2023: Make A Noise About Bullying

Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is coordinated in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. This year it has the theme 'Make A Noise About Bullying' and will take place from Monday 13th to Friday 17th November. The week will be kicked off with Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 14th November, where adults and children wear odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique. 

The Polygon School will be supporting Anti-Bullying Week from Monday 13th November! We will have dedicated time in PSHE lessons across the week a theatre group coming in to work with pupils on Monday afternoon, Odd Sock Day on Tuesday 14th, discussion throughout tutor time and lessons across the curriculum.     

Tuesday 14th November 2023

Each year, millions of people don their odd socks to raise awareness of bullying across the UK! 100s of workplaces take part along with some incredible celebrities including Ant and Dec, Emma Willis, Craig David, Annemarie and Sir Mo Farah. 

Odd Socks Day 2023 will take place to mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week 2023, on Tuesday 14th November. Watch out for Finn the dog joining in with his odd socks!

Diversity Day 2023

 The Polygon School is celebrating School Diversity Week 12^th-16th June. 

As part of our efforts to ensure our school environment is a place where every pupil can realise their potential, we will be joining tens of thousands of pupils and teachers taking part in School Diversity Week across the country to celebrate equality in our school and LGBTQ+ education.

Our school council decided four years ago the way in which they would like to celebrate this is a non-school uniform day where pupils can dress in a way which reflects their identity and respect each other’s choices. This has become an annual event for the school that everyone looks forward to. This year non-school uniform day will be on Wednesday 14th June.  This is optional for pupils and there is NO charge as this is a celebration of the diversity in our school not for a charity.

We hope you will support the school in celebrating Schools Diversity Week and the education of LGBTQ+. Growing up remains unacceptably tough for LGBTQ+ young people 40%, contemplate suicide, 50% self-harm and 96% still hear homophobic remarks. This has a potentially life-long impact on young people’s attainment and wellbeing.

Alongside our anti-bullying and safeguarding policies, taking part in School Diversity Week is an important way of actively supporting LGBTQ+ young people in our school and demonstrating our commitment to an inclusive school environment where every young person can be themselves and thrive. It is a chance to explain to all our students the importance of diversity in the world we are preparing them for.
