Year 7 Powerboating

 

Year 7 had a wonderful time on the Solent waters today powerboating. We were so lucky with the weather! Unfortunately we were unable to drive to boat today due to Covid restrictions but the boys had a blast non the less! It was lovely to see you all enjoy the session and well done for being great ambassadors for the school!

This week we had a lesson about British values. Mr Rooke spoke about the living rights for children and how many people have different circumstances and arrangements with living.

We also spoke about the right of UN rights of a child. For example children have the right to access to food, clothing and a safe home. We were educated on the fact that not all UK or people around the world don’t have access to all three or less of these essential needs in order to have quality of life. We also found out that there is support and people can seek help from many charities, local or national. Even the local government can offer support too.

 The last part of the session we looked at a photo and discussed what we could see. we looked at the impact of corona virus pandemic, which caused a lot of strain for the number of people who were without work. This then created a wave in homelessness. We also discussed the impact of this on a personal to national effects of this issue.

Lastly we released the devastating impact of shelter and organisations struggled to meet high demand due to the rise in cases of homelessness.

Next time we will be looking at the how within this subject.

An Afternoon on the Tiles

Our pupils have had a smashing time making tile mosaics in their Art lessons.

These Gaudi-inspired creations can produce some lovely results for the pupils to display.

Grout Expectations

At Morris House today, we've been learning some practical skills the pupils can take with them when they leave.  

These hands-on sessions could spark a pupils interest for a college placement or career path.

Book Study: Of Mice and Men

Study of America in the 1930’s

Today we discussed the story and identified that the era Of Mice and men is based in the 1930’s.

The book is based around the collapse of the New York Wall street stock market in 1929 and this was a very prolonged economic depression, which meant that;

• ·        Business’ failed
• ·        poverty struck a high
• ·        Crops failed
• ·        long term unemployment.
• ·        Short term contracts
• ·        Poorly paid contracts for work
• ·        Men mainly travelled alone in search of work, going from ranch to ranch

After finding out the history of the 1930’s gave us a great understanding of what the book is based around. We researched more information about the Great depression.

We started to plan our presentations and headings to focus on ready to do our speaking and listening task.

Book Study: Of Mice and Men

Friday 11^th September 2020

This term, 3PR have been studying John Steinbeck’s famous book Of Mice and Men. First lesson Mr Rooke let us all know what our objectives are for this particular study and what to expect this term.

The objectives are:

• Detailed and thorough study of text;
• Key messages and themes presented in the text
• Analyses the way characters are presented in the text
• Understand new vocabulary within the text
•  How to respond to GCSE language question
• We looked at keywords that would be in any story you read.
