Collaborative Learning in KS3 Maths

This morning the year 7 boys are working together with "Table Shapes". The aim is to match the times tables questions to the correct answers to form shapes. It is a bit like dominoes and can be played with up to  4 players.

Making Pancakes at Morris House

Today Tyler and I made pancakes as part of his entry level cookery exam.
They were delicious and enjoyed by several members of staff!

Egg Delivery

First half dozen eggs delivered to Food Tech this morning. They look a bit grubby as Poppy has got into the habit of laying in the run rather than the nest box, but a layer of shredded sodden pallet has dried the run up which should help keep the eggs clean.

Poppy has laid her first eggs! Well done to the pupils for checking while we were given the chickens their treats, I'd started to think she would never lay.

Poppy is now 30 weeks old. Can you calculate what that is in months?

Bird Flu

Avian Influenza (Bird Flu): Latest new

The Prevention Zone will be extended to 28 February 2017. This requires poultry to be “housed” away from wild birds.

Luckily our small run allows us to do this without locking Poppy and Sunflower in a shed. But this does mean at the moment, pupils are not allowed to go into the run or pet the chickens.

It also means we were unable to pick up the Ex-battery hens this weekend as planned, but we are hoping to collect some next month, once the Prevention Zone has ended.

They're Here!

After Christmas at mine, the chickens are back at school. 
 

 It was an early drop off this morning after loading them in the dark last night once they had gone to bed. Luckily Miss Thomas came to help lift them out.

 As you can see, it's a tight fit getting the chicken run in the van, hopefully Mr Hughes will have finished the school one soon.

Unfortunately the ground was softer than I thought and we had a little trouble getting the van to move. Infact, it wouldn't move, and my breakdown company would not come and help. I am hoping Miss Kinder will give me a tow in the morning.

Luckily, I do have a tow rope.
