Cheese Tasting with KS4

 Yesterday 4CM tried cheese tasting in their cookery lesson. As you can see from the first 3 photos-the blue cheese did not go down well! However, we were very impressed at the boys willingness to try new things. Well done boys!

Sea Fishing in the Snow!

 In conjunction with the 'Wetwheels' charity based in Hamble, 6 lucky pupils took to the Solent last Thursday in the hunt for some fish. Pupils showed good resilience as they braved the cold weather and tried their hand at a new activity.  

We could not quite believe the amount of snow that was falling, but all boys were keen to continue. So with our warm coats on, hot chocolate and blankets packed we departed Mercury Marina. 

The most popular fish of the day was the dogfish shark. The boys felt how rough its skin was and although they didn't feel confident to remove the hook they did throw them back in the sea, as these fish are not for eating. 

The largest fish onboard was the eel, we had two of these wiggly, slippery fish. These fish can grow over a metre long! Eels are now on the endangered species list and therefore also returned to the sea.   

Our final species of the day was the whiting and this one was big enough to take home. Lucky enough we had a great crew onboard that maneuvered those needle like teeth and gutted this fish. Well done Lucas on catching your dinner! 

Well done to all the boys for showing great resilience on what was a cold and bumpy day. You would have not guessed that they had not fished before, and by the end of the session some were even baiting up their own lines. Thankyou 'Wetwheels' for giving us such a great experience.  

Ks3 Kensuke's Kingdom trip

 Kensuke's Kingdom 

As Part of Southampton Film festival week, the pupils were able to go on multiple cinema trips, to either Harbor lights or Showcase, where we saw 'The Fall guy', 'Kung Fu Panda 4' and 'Migration'.

For one of these trips a selection of year 8 pupils went to VUE cinema in Eastleigh to watch 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. The year 8 classes have recently been studying the book in their English lessons and it was a nice way to end the unit by having the reward of watching the film. It also created some lovely conversations within the pupils about the differences and similarities of the story and why things might have been changed. It was a really enjoyable trip for both pupils staff. 

Premier League At Polygon

We had the pleasure of welcoming in Saints and West Ham player Maxwel Cornet in to school today.

Max first took part in some “football challenges” outside on the playground with the students, (such as pen shoot out, crossbar challenge, free kick challenge and corner challenge).

We then went inside where we played Uno (Max won😂) and he had a Q&A session where the students asked some really good questions and Max even asked some questions about school life and gave our students some sound advice about how to have the right attitude and work hard to achieve what you want in life.

We then ended the session with students all receiving a signed Saints jumper and posed for a group and individual photos. 

We loved having Maxwel in today and is welcome back anytime.

KS4 English

 Touching the Void

KS4 pupils have been reading and working on the book "Touching the Void". They have been getting to know the characters and writing diary entries as if they were "Simon and Joe", comparing the two characters and how they are presented in the book, and practicing exam questions. They have also been using Venn diagrams to help them compare characters which is cross-curricular learning.

 

Below are some photos of their work. Some pupils have finished their diary entries and some are a yet to be completed but all are excellent examples of the boys hard work! 

Jello Cookies in ASC & Activities

 This week in after school club (ASC) we made a very American recipe-Jello Cookies! This is a recipe we have not make before but it worked so well we decided to do it in Activities on Friday too.

The cookies smelt and tasted like Angel Delight and everyone loved them! I have attached the recipe at the bottom of this blog is you fancy making these at home. Like all cookies, I think they would be lovely warmed up with some ice-cream!

Waffles for Breakfast in 3JG

 This week we had a bit of a mixed week, with cinema trips going out over 3 days, swimming and forest schools all going on! As a result, we were in our tutor groups some mornings. Miss Long thought it would be a nice change if she brought her waffle maker into school and 3JG had waffles for breakfast on Wednesday-so that’s what we did! It was a bit spontaneous so next time I bring the waffle maker in I will make sure to get some fruit to go with them!

Flapjacks

Today year 7 made fruity flapjacks in their cookery lesson. Some of the boys chose to add fruit such as raisins and dried apricots, and some chose to make plain flapjacks. Below are some photos I snapped of 3LBH making theirs. 

The Polygon School is helping at Southampton Central Train Station!

 Get your pink hi-vis at the ready-The Polygon is helping out at Southampton Central in collaboration with the Saints Foundation!

We are very excited to be given the opportunity for our pupils to do some volunteering and work experience  at the train station. Last week pupils from 4NA went down to the station to pick which platform they would like to take responsibility for and start to think about what they would like to do down there to improve their chosen platform. We have also taken responsibility for one of the flowerbed areas at the front of the station at platform 4.

The boys chose platform 4 and they had lots of suggestions for the team at the station! They suggested making new planters, planting new plants, decorating for Christmas, cleaning, painting and even doing a mural on one of the walls!
