Anti - Bullying Week 2020

A BIG thank you to all staff and pupils for such a great Anti- Bullying Week 2020!

The support, conversations in class and positive atmosphere around the school this week has been fantastic! Well done to 3AW for winning the prize for the most odd socks and I look forward to sharing the results of the Anti- Bullying poster competition very soon! Keep checking the blog!

Stewardship - RE

Year 8 and 9 have been learning about the concept of Stewardship. Stewardship is the religious idea that people have been given a special responsibility to be in charge of the Earth, to protect and care for it.

Most religions believe that Earth belongs to God, people have a duty as stewards to look after it on God’s behalf. In return, we are able to use what the Earth provides for our own survival. People do not have a right to abuse the natural world. Those who believe in reincarnation believe they will return to Earth after death so will want to ensure they have a good Earth to return to.    

It’s obvious that pollution and littering hurts the environment but litter doesn’t just pollute our forests, beaches, and pavements. Did you know that it can also be deadly to animals? Everyday items such as cans and plastic bottles can be lethal to unsuspecting wildlife and even pets like dogs and cats. Christians believe polluting the planet is not good ‘stewardship’ as Gods creation is being abused. Pollution harms people and animals so is  against all Buddhist teachings. Buddhists believe no harm should come to any living being. 

The good news? Religious or not we can all do our bit and take a little extra care to make sure litter won’t hurt our animal friends in our community!

Appreciation and gratitude

At The Polygon we understand that everything in life starts with your mindset. Your mindset is how you think about yourself and the world around you. This has been pivotal for teaching as part of our PSHE recovery curriculum as it’s the foundation of your success and happiness!

As part of developing a positive mindset we have been looking at appreciation and gratitude. Appreciation is the skill of noticing what is good in our lives and gratitude is the quality of thankfulness for our blessings and the opportunities to grow, the silver lining to our struggles. 

Our whole school gratitude tree is our reflection of 2020 and shows despite many changes and disruption both at school and at home we appreciate what we do have and the positive in our lives. We are going to hold on to this and take our gratitude and positive mindset into 2021!

International Education Week - British Council Award Ceremony

Celebrating Success...

What a great way to start International Education Week than by attending the British Council Award Ceremony 2020 online.  It was a privilege to represent our school and attend the global celebration in recognition of our second re-accreditation to the International Schools Award.  

The award is twenty one years old this year and we should be very proud that we are one of only sixty two schools to achieve the award this year!

The ceremony also reached out across the world to highlight the work the British Council does globally, as seen in the pictures below from International Schools in Lebanon:

British Council School Exchange Iceland & Food Boxes project supporting a local charity

Mr Patchell would like to say "Congratualtions & thank you to everybody for all of their help" with our international work, with a big highlight being our British Council School Exchange to Iceland in March of this year!  It is fantastic to be recognised for the achievements our school does in embedding and celebrating an international dimension in the curriculum, so that our pupils become better global citizens of the world.

Odd Socks for Anti - Bullying Week!

Tomorrow the 17th of November staff and pupils have been asked to wear odd socks in support of 

Anti-Bullying week!

Pupils will be studying the topic of bullying in PSHE lessons and Mrs Foster has organised a whole school competition to design an Anti-Bullying poster with first place gaining an Amazon gift voucher. 

 

Ink Cartridge recycling

Do you have any ink cartridges at home that are finished with?

Don't forget we recycle them at school. This helps the environment and also helps raise money for The Friends of The Polygon. 

Congratulations to the Readathon Winners of the Autumn 1 Term and Lexia Superstars.

Well done to Roch for coming first in the Readerthon for the Autumn 1 Term 2020.  Roch achieved a whopping 410 minutes.

Multitasking, Tyler accepts his prize and finishes his lunch at the same time.  It was lunchtime after all. 

A proud James was away for the ceremony but received his prize the next day.

Both Tyler and James shared joint 2nd place with 365 minutes each.  A massive achievement!

3rd Place goes to Nathaniel with 280 minutes.  Brilliant!

Three of our pupils also went up a level for our online learning program, Lexia, so further congratulations to Mason, Nathaniel, and Roch.
