One of the challenge of the PiXL Edge Apprentice Award is to design and make something in CDT.

One of our Year 8 pupils researched on the internet and found plans for a Jelly Bean dispenser.

After a couple of alterations he set out, with the help of Mr Hughes, making his project.

 

 

The handle slides to the centre and Jelly Beans drop into a grove. You slide the handle out and the Jelly Beans are dispensed.

 

 

 

This was a great project designed to work towards the Key Attribute of Organisation.

Engagement Programme at Forest Schools

 

Last week the Engagement Programme followed in the footsteps of 7LB and KS4 PE by starting sessions at Forest Schools.

The pupils split into groups and had to build shelters using only string and covers. Next they practiced fire lighting and made hot drinks using the Kelly kettle. They also got a sneaky marshmallow to toast!!

Next week they will be cooking on coals by making Pizza's, watch this space!

Interactive Forum Theatre Bullying

A couple of weeks ago Mr.Bailey produced an assembly using actors from local Theatre Group to take part in an Interactive piece of Forum Theatre, with the topic being that of bullying. The actors would perform a scene and the students were allowed the opportunity to stop the action and question the actors on their actions, and change the way the scene ended.  They could also add different solutions to the action they were witnessing.  It was good to see students and staff take part in contributing their ideas by coming up with various solutions.

Year 7 English Legends

Recently in English, year 7 have been exploring Ancient Greek Myths and Legends. We researched the key techniques used in Myths and learnt about Heroes and Mythical Creatures.

We used this to write out own stories in the style of Greek Myths and created top tump cards of traditional mythical creatures and new ones that we created. They are now on display in our classroom.








Before the students brilliant work went up on the wall, they were very brave and shared their stories with their peers.

Well done year 7, onto the next topic!

Happy Commonwealth Day - 13.3.17

To celebrate Commonwealth Day can we accept the challenge and join hands for peace?  To help play our part in building a peaceful Commonwealth, take a picture of you on your own or as a group and add it to this blog.  I will leave the challenge open all week, with a reward coming to those who accept it.

Engagement Centre at Woodmill

Last week the Engagement Centre started a 6 week rock climbing programme at Woodmill Activity Centre. This week they practiced their belaying skills whilst crate stacking.

 

 

 

 

Mr Willis went first and managed to climb up 15 levels before falling off. Luckily, Shane and Frank were stood below belaying and lowered Sir down to the ground safely.

 

Shane then challenged Mr Willis and beat him by reaching 19 levels of crates!!

 

2D Shapes with 3LL

Today in Maths we looked at tessellating 2D shapes. The boys really enjoyed it and made some fantastic shapes and designs! Well done Reece, Leon and Kieran!

Year 7s first trip to Forest Schools

Today the year 7s went to forest schools for the first time. We will be going every Monday for the rest of the term. All the boys showed fantastic behaviour and manners and had a great time!

Happy St David's Day

The flowers are appearing around the school grounds and bringing some colour. Lots of yellow at the moment.
