Year 7 ICT - Excel
This half term the Year 7 pupils have been learning about the programme - Excel
This has included identifying cell placements, adding colour to cells and adding formula to cells.
They have used colour inserts to make colour by numbers.
They have used these formulas to calculate maths problems.
Pupils have also collected data to produce graphs representing data in more creative ways.

This week at The Polygon we have seen improvements in attendance from the majority of tutor groups and if not a minimal drop from those whom have decreased in week 20.

We are really excited at The Polygon to work with the STAR Project an award-winning education and prevention project.
Star works with children and young people in schools, universities and other youth settings aiming to spark conversations to get young people thinking about what healthy relationships look like, as well as recognising unhealthy relationships or situations and preventing abuse in all its forms.
Focused on preventing abuse in all its forms, STAR’s approach takes a wide perspective, engaging with topics from consent, peer pressure, pornography, sexting, social media, internet safety, mental health and more.
Each STAR session aims to give young people the tools and understanding they need to stay safe, and build respectful relationships now and in the future. STAR’s work complements PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) within the national curriculum currently taught in our school.
Up coming events for this term are as follows:
Nathan has lived experience of the criminal justice system and gives a raw, de-glamorised account of gang involvement and exposes the harsh realities of crime and violence. As he knows these issues first-hand, this approach has high levels of engagement from Polygon pupils.
We feel this is an excellent opportunity to enhance our PSHE and Citizenship curriculum at The Polygon. We are very proud of the mature conversations and questions our pupils asked in these sessions. Unfortunately with the rise of knife crime, this is a topic our pupils are very aware of and have concerns for their safety.

Year 7 have been studying the concept of Identity. As part of our topic we have been looking at why identity is important to us and could be important to others.
We have discussed how it must feel to have your identity taken away from you and have been researching the Jewish faith and learning about Hanukkah.
Pupils have been acting out the story of Hanukkah and produced some excellent performances of Judah leading the Maccabees to victory and the miracle that took place at the temple after.
Their understanding of the story and topical vocabulary has been excellent. Well done year 7!

At the start of the new school term, a selection of pupils from our key stage 4 class took part in the Standing Ovation 'Young Gentlemans' Project. For one session a week, over 10 weeks the students spent time with Leon, their mentor for the project.
We had some excellent results in the first term of this academic year, shown by 77% of the whole school completing work along with two tutor groups in KS3 with 100%! Well done to everybody for their hard work on our Additional Learning Platforms in the first term of this academic year and keep it going.
