SOLENT BIG BANG

STEM event Hilton @ The Ageas

Year 8 visited The Big Bang @ Solent Fair, an inspiring and exciting learning experience that was full of interactive science, engineering, and technological activities. Through shows, workshops and hands on activities, over a 1000 pupils were excited and inspired by the fascinating world of STEM.

Community Roots Allotment

9HI visited the local community allotment during science for a community roots event.

It was a great opportunity to see how other allotment holders were working their allotment, and to see how ours measured up in comparison.

The variety of produce they had growing already was very impressive!

As was their wormery!  The visit has definitely given us some ideas to try out on our own allotment, and we are looking forward to discussing our ideas with Mr Lillywhite.

Rocket Seeds Update

Rocket Seed Update

The seeds have landed and we have been busy filling trays with compost.

200 seeds now have their own identification tag and number. There were two bags of seeds, a blue bag and a red bag, with one hundred seeds from each bag.

Only one of the bags have been into space, but we don't know which one.

The seeds have been placed on a window sill and are being rotated regularly to ensure that they all get the same amount of sunlight.


Thanks to all the pupils that have helped with the planting, labelling and rotating. Next step monitoring.

Entry Level RE!

Congratulations!

 

A huge congratulations goes to 9HI for being the first whole class to complete their Entry Level in RE.

The boys have all worked their socks off over the last few months completing 8 assignments.

They have all shown a very mature attitude when dealing with sensitive and controversial topics so were rewarded with a feast!

Well done again I am so proud of you all :-)

Art - Marwell´s Zany Zebras

Work continues on our adopted smaller Grevy’s Zebra sculptures as part of the Marwell’s Zany Zebras Education Programme.  We were lucky to be one of the one hundred schools bieng part of this great project to help raise funds to conserve endangered Grevy’s zebras and other wildlife, and to support communities living in the arid rangelands of northern Kenya.  http://zanyzebras.org.uk/schools/

Every pupil and staff member is creating a piece of art, marbling, that will then be cut in to strips and stuck to our Zany Zebra.  This ensures everybody is involved in making our zebra the best looking in the zeal of one hundred zebras.

St George´s Day Tea Party

What a fantastic end to last week!  The whole shool and invited guests got to sit down and enjoy a tea party together.  The tea party was to mark St George´s Day, The Queens Birthday and to celebrate Shakespeare´s 400th anniversary.

James was a great quiz master!

The tea party concluded with given out the weekly awards - Best Attendance - Tutor Group and individual, Best Points and Moodle Champions.  Well done to everybody

Engagement Programme- SEAL

  Today in SEAL The Engagement Programme read the poem

 'The Crayon Box That Talked' by Shane DeRolf.

 

The poem is intended to emphasize how amazing it is that we are all so

different and individual, and how boring it would be if we were all the same.

 

Once we had read and discussed the poem we each designed a crayon to represent our individual personalities.

 

 

 

These will be displayed at Morris House along with the poem.

 

Well done Engagement Programme pupils for working so hard, all of your crayons look fantastic!

 

 

 

Computing in KS3

This week the 7CJ have started a new module within the computing curriculum. They will be introduced to the MS Office software. This week specifically they are focusing on MS Excel. MS Excel uses a grid system that information could be inputted. To develop an understanding of this the pupils completed a colour by number task in which each cell was assigned a colour.

 

The pupils were very engaged in the task and enjoyed trying to guess who or what they were creating a picture of. They were able to work  independently during the lesson and produced work which they were all proud of!

Breakfast Club - Sunflower competition

 

This week in Breakfast Club we were looking at gardening and plants.

 

After a week of learning about different plants (especially the poisonous and bizarre) we decided to  have our very own Sunflower growing competition!

Bags2School

A big thank you to everyone who contributed time, energy and clothes for the Bags2School fundraising effort.

It was my first attempt at fundraising in school, and I can't explain what an emotional rollercoaster it was. After being given boxes and boxes of clothes to our appeal, only to find they weren't accepted, we now have boxes and boxes of uniform which we are hoping to donate to schools in Africa. I'll keep you updated on the progress of where in Africa it goes to later.

But, the clothes we could use raised £134! So again a big thank you to everyone, and hopefully more fund raising to follow towards our trip to Iceland!
