Christmas Day

The fifth candle represents the birth of Christ. The flame of this candle remind us that He is the light of the world and that if we follow Him, we will never walk in darkness, but will have the true light of life.

Joy is like a light shining in a dark place. As we look at this candle we celebrate the joy that can be found in Christ.

Christmas at The Polygon

This week at The Polygon we have been very lucky and had a week of fun  activities and treats!

We started last week with a "Round Robin" where all the boys went into different classes all do and did a variety of Xmas activities in each room. 

We had trip day on Monday and all classes chose where they wanted to go and were excellently behaved. Yesterday was The Polygon Xmas lunch-100 people came to celebrate with us and Santa made his usual appearance and handed out gifts to every boy. Deacon Chant and Sheldon Glasspool were also awarded trophies during the lunch for their excellent fishing this term.

Today we are off to the Panto to see Snow White and the seven Dwarfs which i am personally really looking forward to! (It has the Chuckle Bothers in it!).

The 3rd Sunday of Advent rememers John the Baptist - The Candle of love.

Love is like a candle shining in a dark place. As we look at the light of this candle we celebrate the love that is to be found in Christ.

Some churches use a pink candle for the 3rd Sunday of Advent, what colour is the candle in your church?

Dynamic Movement Skills and Boxfit

The Polygon school have the opportunity to work in partnership with Solent University delivering Dynamic Movement Skills in school. DMS is a cutting edge movement methodology for children & adults that helps develop, refine & improve gross motor skills, coordination, agility & quickness.

The first session today was a great success, with the boys combining DMS with their boxfit skills. We hope the boys will continue to engage as successfully in the future! Well done boys! :)

2nd Sunday in Advent

2nd Sunday of Advent

The 2nd Sunday of Advent and today we light our second candle. This candle represents the old testament prophets - The Candle of Peace

Peace is like a light shining in a dark place. As we look at this candle we celebrate the peace that can be found in Christ.

Southampton In Bloom

 

Now the weather is cold and there are so few plants about, I thought this would be a nice reminder of the lovely enteries tutor groups did for Southampton in Bloom. This year we entered every catergory and were awarded 3 certificates including a Gold.

Each tutor group is focused on one area of the school and is hopefully planning next years planting ready to try and get best in catergory.

Don't forget to keep collecting and storing seeds ready for the spring.

1st Advent Sunday

It is the first Sunday of Advent and time to light the first candle of the Advent Wreath.

The wreath is made of a circle of evergreen branches laid flat to symbolize eternal life. Four candles stand in the circle and each one represents one of the four Sundays of Advent. In the centre of the circle is a fifth candle, the Christ Candle, which is lit on Christmas Day.

The circle of the wreath reminds Christians of God, His eternity and endless mercy, which has no beginning or end.

The green of the wreath speaks of the hope that Christians have in God, the hope of newness, of renewal, of eternal life.

Traditionaly, the theme of the first Advent Sunday is God's people - the Candle of Hope. Hope is like a light shining in a dark place. As we look at the light of this candle we celebrate the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

This week we were featured for our recent success at the EBP South Amazing People Awards, both for our schools success and the success of one of our Year 11 pupils.

Amazing people, amazing achievements: Congratulations to The Polygon School who received two awards at the recent EBP South Amazing People Awards. The Amazing Education Establishment which promotes the Careers Education Award celebrates how the school offers students a weekly essential work skills lesson which has resulted in an increased numbers of students undertaking work experience. The Amazing Student category was awarded to pupil Arron Adamson, who successfully completed his work experience placement at St. Marks Primary School as a Classroom Assistant. Arron's placement was so successful that he has continued to attend St. Marks to assist with the PE lessons.

British Council International School Award re-accreditation!

The Polygon School has been awarded, after re-accreditation, the British Council’s prestigious full International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.

Mr Patchell would like to thank everybody for all of their help with our international work as it is a fantastic achievement for our school in gaining re-accreditation.   He also hopes Mrs Hendon-John enjoys the International Schools Award Ceremony in London - 27.11.2017, where she may have the opportunity to meet our MP.

Sir Ciarán Devane, CEO of the British Council, said: ‘The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms. Embedding an international dimension in children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful lives and careers in an increasingly global economy.’

Cinema Trips

We have been lucky enough to visit the cinema 2 weeks in a row! Last week we all went to see "Spiderman Homecoming" and yesterday we saw "Wonderwoman". All the boys were brilliantly behaved and we all had a lovely time! I hope we can go again soon-well done boys!

EBP South Amazing People Awards - Amazing Educational Establishment

 

 

 

We were recently nominated for an Award at the EBP South Amazing People Awards. We attended the award ceremony last week hosted by Solent Hotel & Spa to find out the winners.

 

16 Awards were handed out on the night and we were nominated in the category of Amazing Educational Establishment who Promote Careers Education.

 

We were nominated with 5 other schools and colleges in the region. After a tense wait when the nominations were read out we found out the result.

 

We are very grateful to have won in our category. We would like to thank EBP South for this award and thank all of the staff form The Polygon School for their hard work in prompting careers learning and work experience over the past year.
