The Polygon Attendance week 3

 

Week 3 for the Polygon School has seen 5 tutor groups improve between a small percentage of 2% to a great 17%. Overall the school has only decreased 1% on the whole for the week total.

Best Attendance 

Well I must say what a massive achievement from Year 7 group AW! You have remained the best attendance two weeks running! The tutor group have also tied with Key Stage 4 SK too with 96% attendance.

3BR have improved on their attendance by a whopping 17%

In addition to celebrating attendance, we offer the prizes of £10 and £5. This is to encourage our pupils to celebrate and to keep up there own personal attendance. Those pupils with 100% attendance have a chance to have their name in a draw. If you want to be in with a chance to win, come to school everyday! The draw takes place every week! How amazing is that?!

We have a display board with more details of pupil names for 100% or please ask your tutor to inform you of your progress! 

All awards and cups are announced every Friday during class assembly.

Global Learning September

September is to think about the following question:

What do you think ultimately the future will look like? 

What will the future look like for the environment?

What do you think you will have to change to make sure we have what we have now?

Do you think we will keep up the same traditions?

Do you think you will have the same opportunities that are out there today?

What will the world look like in the future?

What do you want to be doing for your future?

Too many questions?

There are so many questions and so many unknowns!

It seems really stressful and mind boggling! 

Everyone questions what the future may look like all the time. 

However we need to also do something about it.

 

The most important thing to focus on is:

What would you like to do to ensure you are getting the best for yourself and for the planet too?

What can your elders do to ensure that you can receive a better future? Not only for you but for posterity, future generations. 

Remember: 

These people of the future could be your children, great grand children, or any people who are born after you.

Lets ensure we make the world a better place to live and thrive!

Little things you can do to help the environment:

- Grow your own flowers and vegetable

Any questions about Global Learning at The Polygon,

Every Friday we focus on Global Learning during class assemblies. 

Mr Patchell kindly sets the resources for staff to teach tutor groups about particular events that happen world wide to broaden our minds on these events and current affairs.  This also builds on our international journey that we started at the school nine years ago when we gained the International Schools Award - ISA.

Year 7 ICT - Digital Footprints

Year 7 have been looking at their own Digital footprint to identify what social media they use online.

They had the choice to cut out pictures or to draw the logos onto a footprint.

Year 7 - Online Safety

There are lots of things you can do to keep yourself safe online.

      

1.Think before you post

Why?

Don’t upload or share anything you wouldn’t want your parents, carers, teachers or future employers seeing. Once you post something, you lose control of it, especially if someone else screenshots or shares it. It will be there forever.

      

2. Don’t share personal details

What?

These are your address, phone number, full name, school and date of birth.

    

3. Watching out for phishing and scams

Who?

Phishing is basically when someone tries to trick you into giving them information, for example like your password. Someone might also try to trick you by saying it is a legitimate source.

But why?

Never click links from emails or messages that ask you to log in or share your details, even if you think they might be genuine. If you’re asked to log into a website, always go to the app or site directly or ask an adult to help you.

    

4. Think about who you’re talking to

Where?

Anywhere Online! There are lots of ways that people try to trick you into trusting them online. Even if you like and trust someone you’ve met online, never share personal information with them. Only have people you know on your social media, many platforms assist in public post like twitter or TikTok for example. Its okay to engage in posts. However be very careful not to give personal information or meet with strangers from online.

5. Never give out your password

When?

Never should you ever give out your password or log-in information to anyone. Make sure you pick a strong password.

 Always get help if you are finding any situation online difficult

Remember... 

What to do if things go wrong? 

• Talk to someone you trust like an adult at school or someone you trust
• Talk to Childline
• Report bullying and abuse directly to the website or app you are using
• Tell the police by making a report to CEOP online if someone is threatening or blackmailing you

The Polygon Attendance Week 2

 

This table is a comparison to week 1 and 2. The data shows a dip in attendance on the whole. Week 2 progress for two tutor groups, 4CM and 3NA have risen in attendance. The whole school is down on 6%. However 4% rise from previous week 2 in September 2020. 

Additional Learning Champions

Online learning is a very important aspect to our school and involves all pupils to gain confidence with learning in all subjects. We offer a range of online platforms. Each week Tutor groups complete work to the best of their ability. Key Stage 4 group SK were the winners in completing the highest amount of work for week 2. Will they remain the champions? Best Attendance

What an absolute outstanding achievement from our two Year 7 groups! Remaining champions two weeks running! Both groups should be really proud of themselves for coming into school every single day. The importance of attendance is to ensure you are receiving the education you need to be able to learn, but most importantly grow as a person and develop your skills!

Healthy High 5 with 3PR

 

This week we thought to challenge ourselves in seeing if we could complete walking a mile in less time than previously. Last week as a class we managed to complete the walk in 17 minutes.

As a class we decided to either work individually or as a small group to complete the walk. Here are our results. 

Linkin: 8 minutes 29 seconds

Callum: 9 minutes 33 seconds

Mr Rooke: 12 minutes 15 seconds

Harley, Lukas and Tash: 12 minutes 48 seconds

Today's first session we decided to go for a walk around the school playground. We managed to complete a mile in 17 minutes! 

We also made sure that we were hydrated soon after we returned to class. 

Year 7 Enjoy Their First Week at the Polygon

Class 3LB.

It has been a very good start for our new year 7 boys this week.

The boys have shown great resilience.  Having to adapt to a new environment can a be trying time for anyone.

First Aid - PSHE

 

As part of their PSHE curriculum pupils took part in First Aid sessions during 'The Great Escape Weeks'.  Pupils covered basic treatment for common injuries, lifesaving skills, how to administer CPR and the purpose of defibrillators and when one might be needed.

All pupils were fantastic and I was impressed to see everyone joining in and trying CPR!

Swimming!

 

Swimming at Shirley Swimming Pool occurred for every year group during 'The Great Escape!' 

This gave ALL pupils a chance to develop their skills and confidence in the water.

Mrs Foster was extremely impressed with the determination of pupils to improve on personal abilities and by the fantastic behaviour and attitude conveyed by the pupils during these sessions.

All the pupils have asked if this opportunity can continue next academic year and I am pleased to report Mrs Foster and Mr Penfold are looking at the timetable!

Water safety and Life Guard training workshop

All pupils had great fun learning Lifeguarding skills at Shirley Swimming Pool.

There were a lot of giggles as ropes got tangled and poles hit the ceiling but I am pleased to report everyone was saved and everyone learnt valuable life skills as an extension to their PSHE and Citizenship curriculum!
