Over the last few terms, Morris House has undergone a re-organisation of learning spaces in order to continue to adapt and evolve to our pupils needs and to make the areas more engaging for the pupil’s academic and engagement sessions. With GCSEs underway too, the more classroom spaces the better!

Mrs Ferguson's classroom  has moved to a larger space in Morris House which has made it more engaging for the pupils, with a more comfortable layout and much more space which has shown a positive impact within her teaching sessions. Work is displayed on the boards, which helps the pupils have pride in the work they do, alongside other learning tools to support academic sessions. 

The focus on this room is a secondary space from Mrs Ferguson’s classroom. The pupils have been really engaged in the different maps on the walls – showcasing Hampshire, The UK, Europe and The World. Throughout the term, we have been finding where we live in a local, country, European and worldwide context. The maps support our discussions about places we are visiting and talking about during our sessions. 

Although this classroom has the facilities for pupils to take their exams and still complete their academic sessions, the main focus of this room is Music. The walls show a timeline of the evolution of Music, and resources include an Apple iMac, Keyboard, Guitars and a Nintendo Wii for breakout and engagement sessions.

The Morris House team continue to adapt work spaces to meet the needs and interests of the pupils on the Stretch and Engagement programmes, and it has been really great to see classroom spaces busy with pupils and a learning environment in high demand. Harder to reach pupils attendance is on the up and prioritising their academic needs has been made easier with engaging spaces to do so! 

 

4NA Descriptive Writing

 During English this week 4NA went for a walk in our local woodlands to try and help inspire them for their descriptive writing piece. 

The boys were thinking about their senses and writing down ideas on individual whiteboards as they explored the area.

Ties, Ties and more Ties

 

Year 11 and their ties!

In WorkSkills this half term we have been looking at personal presentation in relation to Interviews. We have looked at and discussed, dress code, hygiene and greetings.

As well as this we have also been practicing a valuable life skill.....tying a tie.

There were laughs, frustration and some odd looking knots but all of the boys did a great job of learning to tie their ties as you can see below. Well done for the perseverance !

BREAKING NEWS: 3LBH Become Newsreaders!

 This just in: 3LBH have become newsreaders today!

In their reading lesson today the class were brave enough to read out-loud and became the best newsreaders we had ever seen! 3LBH are reading “Enemy Lines” which is about war, and is the first book in a series of adventure books they will be reading.

They donned a suit jacket and glasses (sunglasses were all we had!) and read in their best news reporter voices. They were brilliant!

Vocational Wednesdays

As part of their personalised timetables, a group of the Morris House pupils attend a vocational provision at the Routes Skill Centre.

Steve teaches them a number of different areas of construction, all as part of their Level 1 Multi Trade Construction qualification. 

The boys learn the basics of tiling, brickwork, plastering and plumbing, and more. 

The course lasts 4 years, and goes towards their Laser Learning Employment & Progression Qualification - which can be carried on in their next stage of education.

The set up in the workshop replicates that of a real work environment, so the pupils learn a work ethic as well as skills to set them up in a job, and the scenarios are realistic for training purposes too!
