In Asdan two groups have been completing a challenge on Aboriginal style art, we have looked at traditional art symbols and the groups have used their math's knowledge to measure out their boomerang shape. They then used their art and design knowledge to create a design on paper once happy with the design the wooden boomerangs were decorated using acrylic art pens.

Year 8 CDT

 Year 8 CDT

In CDT this half term pupils have begun work on making Sweet Machines. This involves using cutting, sanding and drilling skills. Pupils need to measure, cut and assemble pieces of wood so that the sweets will drop from a jar, run along a smooth groove and come out to be eaten.

As you can see, these are well under way in construction and we look forward to seeing, and trying, the finished product.

The Green Influencers

The Green Influencers Scheme helps to mentor young
people to create their own environmental social action projects. It helps them connect to nature in a meaningful and longlasting way, but in a way that they choose. The Polygon School have matched their interests in electronics and
reducing electronic waste with caring for our planet!
The scheme is funded by The Ernest Cook Trust, the IWill Fund, The National Lottery Community Fund, and the Department of Digital, Media and Sport.
There's more information on the project on the https://www.sos-uk.org/

The boys enjoyed the large selection of breakfast on offer.

Happy with the choice of 12 beds between the 3 of them.

#squadgoals

The boys were amazing with their input for the storytelling workshop they took part in.

The main event has begun...Aiden and Jack have done their green man sketch with Aiden dressed as a giant Pea...sadly we dont have a a picture of that yet...but we will!

Ivan captivating the crowd with his ability to stand and read to 100 adults about the green phone project.

I hate goodbyes...and everyone was sad to see the boys leave as they were fantastic in their presentation, so well behaved and a credit to the Polygon.

A big thanks to Holly in the picture for being a great Green Mentor to the school and to The Earnest Cook trust for inviting us all up and for being so good to our boys.

 Key Stage 3 CDT.

This half-term the Year 8's have been designing and creating their own juggling balls. They have researched, planned and then sewn the juggling balls, using skills that we learnt in classes. We decided on juggling balls for their individual creativity and eye-catching colours!

Lion King - Mayflower Theatre

27 pupils were lucky enough to experience an afternoon at the theatre and were treated to a mesmerising performance of "The Lion King" at The Mayflower Theatre. We enjoyed all the music from the original film as well as immersive puppetry and costumes. Pupils especially enjoyed the gigantic elephant which walked through the audience!

The Lion King has been linked to whole school projects across all subjects this term and it was certainly a spectacle to see off all their hard work!

Polygon at the QINETIQ Powerboat Challenge

A great day at the boat challenge with our boys having the opportunity to finally test their creation.

Come on Team 8!

Scrapper is ready to go!

All motors are checked to ensure all schools use the same motors.

Ivan and Lewis do some last-minute adjustments.

Ivan hands over our boat for the race.

The guys took it in turns to race Scrapper.

Ivan proudly picks up the winning boat

Our pupils mingled very well with the schools and the engineers.

A proud moment for our boys and Polygon School.

They finished mid table in heats and won the B final. A great achievement for the schools maiden voyage in this competition.
