Foraging

3GS and 3LB have been learning about what you can find when foraging in the UK.  For Outdoor Learning Day this year, we went into the woods to see what we could find. We took sheets with pictures of all the plants and nuts that it is possible to find when foraging.

UV radation

3HI have been learning about properties and effects of light waves in Science this half term.  For Outdoor Classroom Day this year, we went out in the sunshine to learn about the dangers of UV radiation.  We then made bracelets with UV beads - they change colour when exposed to UV light, helping you to stay safe in the Sun!

Solar oven cooking

As it was Outdoor Classroom Day today, we took advantage of the sunny weather and did some outdoor cooking!  The solar oven has shiny panels to reflect radiation from the Sun into the box.  It gets surprisingly hot!

The Polygon Allotment

Now that the weather has changed and Spring is in the air 4AW spent a lesson in the Polygon school allotment. They cleared weeds from around the wishing well and tidied one of the allotment beds.

Reece, Ryan and Zack also tidied and replanted the strawberry bed in hopes of a fresh crop of strawberries in the Summer months.

The Morris House Garden

Pupils at Morris House initially spent the winter months clearing and preparing the front garden for Southampton in Bloom this summer.

This week, Charlie and Jordan planted various flowering border plants including a lovely selection of colourful pansies that were kindly donated by Sainbury's and Homebase.

They will continue to develop the front border area over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates...

An Update on 3LBs Planting Project

3LB have been given part of the playground/flower beds so that they can take part in a community planting challenge. They have been working hard with Bernie each week to turn over, weed, dig and plant so that they can improve the school (plus they really enjoy it!).

Last week, the boys began to plant the plants that had been donated to Bernie from Homebase and soon enough the flower beds will be looking amazing!

Well done 3LB and a special well done to Jake as he has made a special effort to help with this project-well done.
