4NA have been lucky enough to work in collaboration with the Saints Foundation to do work experience at Southampton Central Station.

This exciting opportunity will continue next academic year as well, with other classes being given the chance to take part. 

The boys have all really enjoyed this experience and put a lot of effort into every task they've been assigned!  

Some of the boys favorite jobs were the more hands on ones like litter picking; they'd have competitions on who could collect the most litter.

Rhubarb from the Allotment

 Last week Miss Thom cut some of the lovely rhubarb that has been growing in the school allotment for us to use in cookery activities. We roasted the rhubarb in the oven before adding it to a delicious crumble! Miss Long even took some home and made her own crumble over the weekend because it looked so good!

Progress at The Polygon Patch!

Since April 2024, the Morris House team and pupils have taken on the project of bringing life back to the allotment and transforming it into a resource to be used for the whole school.

When the task was taken on, the allotment was in need of some love! We have a great space with loads of potential. As alternative avenues for learning are at the heart of what we do at Morris House we quickly integrated this into our pupil's timetables and got to work! 

The potential of this space was immediately obvious, although it was not going to be easy!  With the help of pupils during their engagement sessions, and dedication and hard work from Miss Thom and Mr Harvey, the process started and the hard work began. 

In just over a year, the Polygon Patch has transformed into a wonderful outdoor learning space. Pupils have got involved with the moving of the poly tunnel, building a new shed and a shelter. Miss Thom works hard every week during allotment sessions, regardless of weather, to ensure upkeep of the allotment. With the change in weather into the summer months, a lot of preparation has gone into what new things to grow. 

The Allotment also gives us space to have a more green approach - produce is used in seasonal cooking lessons at Morris House and in food tech on the main site, food waste from the school kitchen is used to make our own compost,  and Mr Harvey is even designing our own water catcher out of plastic bottles to collect rain water to water our own plants too! 

With the new shelter, pupils are starting to be encouraged to use the allotment for other sessions too, it's a lovely change of scenery to read a book for English lessons!

Entry Level Year 9

 In Y9 the students all have the chance to complete the NCFE Ceative craft Entry Level course below is the practical outcome for the course.  Well done to everyone who completed their qualification.

Pottery Throwing experience

 As part of the KS4 CDT curriculum the students had the chance to learn how to throw pots on a pottery wheel. Although it was messy they all had great fun. The Pots were then sent to the kiln and when they came back they all had the chance to decorate them in a Art Deco or Bauhaus style.

IConstruct Careers trip

 A group of Y10's went to a Careers day at Fareham College, that was put on by the Construction sector, they had the chance to look at different careers and talk to different companies. There was also hands on experiences. The day was a great success and the students really enjoyed looking af the different companies.

They were able to build a brink wall as well as have a go on the vitual diggers and demonlition vehicles.

Global Underwater Hub STEM Challenge

 

A great day learning to design, build and program using Lego Spike. Four KS3 students took up the challenge and represented the school and competed against other mainstream schools.

They had to design a robot that completed a number of different challenges, as well as do a Sales presentation to the judges.

The students did very well and completed the Mission Brief, they named their ROV Poseidon Rescue, they also did their presentation to the Judges. and were able to answer questions. 

The group were a credit to the school and should be proud of themselves.

Year 9 English

  Gothic Horror

Year 9 pupils have been exploring the conventions of Gothic Horror story writing this half-term. They have looked at what is meant by a Genre, how to write tension and read, as well as watched 'The Woman in Black'. They have then put all their knowledge about Gothic Horror/tension writing to the test and created their own fantastic short stories. Whilst they are not all finished, the effort that they have put into their stories has been incredible and they should all be very proud of themselves.
