ICT - Year 9 Animations

 ICT - Year 9 Animations

In Year 9 pupils have been working on Animations. They have been looking at flip book, stop motion and digital animation processes.

The pupils have made their own flip book animations and have now moved on to stop motion. In this process they took a 16-bit image and are drawing it to squared paper, square by square. After each change they take a picture and is is layered to make a stop motion film. Some of the films will be over 150 frames long and we look forward to sharing this in school soon.

Below you can see some of the pupils working on their stop motion films.

4PR Climbing Session

4PR attended a climbing session at Parthian Climbing Centre in Southampton. They pushed their fears to the limit as they took on the high walls while top roping, then developed their skill and technique bouldering. I was so proud of all 6 pupils, they all took to the walls and developed their confidence over the hour and a half session.

The boys warmed up on a slightly smaller wall. They worked in groups of 3 as they all belayed for each other. They started to learn to trust in the equipment and they all had a part to play as they watched each other climb. Pupils were being super supportive of each other and offering good advice on routes up the wall.

Once they reached the top pupils then has to abseil down the wall.

Pupils then moved on to the highest wall in the centre and had the opportunity to try some more difficult climbs whilst using the auto belays. Well done Lucas for making it to the top!
The remainder of the session the boys had the opportunity to do some bouldering.

Well done AJ fantastic perseverance even when your arms were getting tired you took on some challenging climbs which included overhangs.

Tash smashing the light blue routes.

Tobi posing on the wall once he had reached the top.

Lucas challenging himself with both yellow and blue climbs. Fantastic determination with the cubes Lucas. You are a natural climber.

Harley challenging himself with the white and light blue routes.

Riley always up for a challenge and moved very quickly from light blue to yellow then finished the session climbing blue routes.

Well done boys what a super session.

Creating Collaborative Christmas Trees!

Over the festive period, our KS3 classes worked together in lessons to create some collaborative Christmas trees! It was a fun experience for the pupils and they were really happy with the colourful and creative final pieces.

Using Autumn leaves found across the shcool to create bonfire artwork

During art lessons, the KS3 classes were taken out to the find leaves across the school. These leaves were then glued down by the pupils onto black card and arranged to create some exciting bonfire artwork.

Students really enjoyed hunting for the perfect coloured leaves for their work!

Avatar Workshop with ELNO art

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to have London-based artist ELNO come into our art department for the day, to do a workshop with some of the pupils across KS3 and KS4. The pupils really got inspired by the workshop, showing some incredible creativity and wonderful final pieces!

Maths Interventions

                                Maths Interventions

This year a number of pupils have been targeted for maths interventions. These pupils are working to catch up for missed time or looking to push themselves even further. The maths department have been working with pupils from across the school using resource from Edexcel.

These include the "Access to Foundation", "Target 3 and "Target 5" intervention books. We are hoping to need the "Target 7" books next year!

Well done to all the boys on their hard work.

Polygon Hockey ...

This year all of the boys in their PE lessons will be able to have a go at hockey. Since we had the AstroTurf installed last year it has given us the ideal surface to be able to attempt to take the hockey world by storm.

By the end of the year, all classes will have had a chance to be involved in this quick and exciting invasion game.

Well done so far to 3HI and 3JG who have been the first group to successfully take art...

KS3 Combustion!

 KS3 Combustion!

KS3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) have recently been learning about burning fuels. They have learnt that combustion is a chemical reaction that requires oxygen so we did a series of tests burning candles in varying amounts of air. Their results were excellent and it allowed us to explain about the products of the reaction, one being Carbon Dioxide, a greenhouse gas that is causing global warming.

LifeLab Visit Year 7

LifeLab visit  - Build a body for life.

Some of our Year 7 pupils were lucky enough to visit the LifeLab at Southampton University. The pupils worked on many different tasks that included problem solving as well as measuring things such as heart rate, blood pressure and grip strength.

Royal Institution Visit

The Royal Institution visit -  2023

The Science department applied for a grant from The Royal Institution and were lucky enough to be successful. We had a presenter visit the school to present their 'Energy Live!' show to our KS3 pupils.

Key Stage 3 Fitness (3AW, 3LBH, 3DRB and 3HI)

Over the last 2 months, all of the boys have been hitting the fitness hard and starting to understand the demands of circuit training on the body.

The Year 9/10 and 11 classes will all do fitness as a sort and will be examined on different aspects of their knowledge on fitness in their theory exam, so we have started learning all the names of muscles, what exercises can be done to train each muscle and then in lessons we have been doing the fitness circuits to test their fitness and ut them to the test.

Each of the tutor groups has done amazingly well-so much so, we have had to use the Key Stage 4 circuit training programme with them....Well done to all of the Key Stage 3 groups....

Year 9 and 10 Fitness Testing...Part 2

In our VCert PE lessons, we are back in the Fitness Testing fortnight. Back in October, we completed 11 fitness tests to see how physically fit the boys were in both Health Related Fitness and Skill Related Fitness.

Between 20th February and 3rd March we will be back completing these fitness tests to see how their fitness has changed over the last 4 months.

This is all in preparation for their Year 10 and Year 11 PE coursework where they will have to complete fitness tests and develop a 4 week Training Plan based on their results.

Good luck boys..!!

 Key Stage 3 CDT.

This half-term the Year 8's have been designing and creating their own juggling balls. They have researched, planned and then sewn the juggling balls, using skills that we learnt in classes. We decided on juggling balls for their individual creativity and eye-catching colours!
