GCSE English

 In the GCSE English lessons recently, we have been studying one of the GCSE texts; “Chinese Cinderella” by Adeline Yen Mah. We have been annotating the text and looking at the relationships between the characters. We look at the language and structure of the texts in great detail.The pupils will look at all of the possible GCSE English texts that may come up to give them the best chance of success in their exams.

Here are 4CM working hard, and some of their fantastic work. Miss Ifould offers after school GCSE English revision once a week for those who want to stay, and you are welcome to take home all of the GCSE anthologies to read at home.

Myths and Legends Imaginative Play KS3

 KS3 have been working around the topic “Myths and Legends” in English, so when Mrs Foster brought in her amazing mythical creature toys and castle, it was a great opportunity for some of the boys to explore imaginative play.

It was so nice to watch the boys playing with the characters and making up stories and names for them (Gary the scorpion monster and Trevor the dragon were my personal favourites!)

Imaginative play helps children develop their language, social and intellectual skills, as well as helping them to express their emotions and understand the world around them.

PSHE at Morris House

Over the last few terms, the Morris House team have been delivering the weekly PSHE topics in line with the themes being delivered at the Main School site. In addition to their core academic sessions, we deliver PSHE during their engagement sessions. Due to our ability to work 1-2-1 with the students, we  are able to follow a more personalised structure and adapt to their individual PSHE needs.

With the arrival of a new display board in the common room area, we’ve been able to break topics down into small activities to do in groups or individually, to ensure more engaging and relevant delivery.

As well as this, Mrs Ferguson has been mindful to keep this accessible to all pupils, and made work packs to send home or take off site to pupils who can’t make it in to Morris House.

So far, we have studied topics such as Banter vs Bullying; Human Rights; and Drugs and Addiction. Consistency has been essential to make sure the content of our PSHE curriculum is relevant and understandable for all year groups, to support the responsive and adaptable nature of these sessions. 

It's been really positive to see the Morris House boys engaging so well in our PSHE curriculum.

Tech:Truck

 

Tech:Truck

This week we were fortunate to have a visit from the Tech:Truck.

The truck holds ICT hardware and software, all accessible by pupils with a strong link to how this technology is used in careers.

Pupils were able to use VR headsets, Holo headsets, flight simulator, boat simulators and music making software as well as looking at what the onboard 3D printer had made.

The Polygon School Healthy High 5 GOLD AWARD

 We are so pleased to report that we have achieved the HH5 GOLD AWARD again from Solent NHS.

We are the only secondary school in Southampton to be achieving the Gold award at the moment and we are really proud of this. HH5 is part of our everyday life at the Polygon as we do so much around physical activity and mental health and wellbeing.

Beef Noodles with 4CM

 Last week 4CM made beef noodles in their cookery lesson. The KS4 boys are very good cooks, and manage to cook, clean up and eat what they have made in their 40 minute lesson.
