Alternative Sports Day

Freestyle Fun Day Friday was an alternative sports day organised by Lukas Smith and Cameron Vaughan, both Year 10 students, with the support of Danny Aldridge

All classes were given an opportunity to take part and everyone enjoyed having a go at skating, scooting and skateboarding. Danny was impressed with the students who were willing to try something new, showing courage and determination; he also mentioned how good it was to see students helping each other. A great day for all – well done to Lukas and Cameron for doing a fantastic job!

Outside learning for Outdoor Classroom Day!

On the 18th May we recognised Outdoor Classroom Day by taking our art lesson outside. The pupils were given the opportunity to use chalks to draw on the paving slabs around the building. A range of art was displayed from doodles, writing and tags as well as participating in social games of hangman and noughts and crosses.

Some pupils also tried shadow art and used pieces of perspex to trace around objects they found outside.

They really enjoyed the sunshine and learning outside the classroom inspired by the surrounds of our lovely school!

 

 

P.E. and Engagement Activity at the Driving Range

 

 

As part of the Engagement Programme activities the group attended 2 sessions at Hedge End Golf Centre and Chandlers Ford Golf Academy.

 

They learnt about club selection, range and grip technique.

 

The pupils used Irons, Woods and Drivers to see the differences in technique and hitting distance.

 

We had many successes, it was a good learning curve for them all, and all of the pupils showed a great deal resilience learning a new skill.

 

 



 

 

Engagement Programme at Forest Schools

 

 

For our last session at Forest school the pupils tried to build "star fires". This is where they light a central fire and slowly draw in the wood to keep the fire going. They had a great time and got to cook some sausages too!!

 

 

 



The last year 7 trip to Forest Schools

Year 7 have been visiting Itchen Valley Country Park for several weeks now for a session in the woods.
They were very sad to have had their last session for the year,but really enjoyed it!

The Impact of Climate Change - Key Stage 3 Geography

This half term key stage 3 have been looking at the impact of climate change both globally and in the UK.

We discovered that here in the South, an increase of just a few metres could have a big impact on us, with much of Southampton being vulnerable to flooding!

It's not all doom and gloom though - warmer temperatures bring many benefits to the UK such as the ability to grow new types of plants and the opportunity to spend more time outside, being active and enjoying the sunshine! Below is a picture of a whole-school key stage 3 Cricket match being played on the last day of term.

You may have noticed it's a bit quieter in the chicken run at the moment! 

During the Easter Holidays Sunny went to his new home in Winchester. He is looking after a new flock of hens and as it's in the countryside, he can't annoy too many people with his crowing.

Well done to 3AW who looked after him so well, especially dealing with him when he was having one of his moments!

Poppy is currently staying at mine with my chicken Fleur, I'll put some photographs on the blog soon so you can see how she is doing.

3HI have been learning about our digestive system and completed an experiment to show the process our food goes through.

3LL Art

Today 3LL have been doing some excellent canvas paintings. Examples of our work is shown below.

What's Under Our Feet?

We've been busy doing a survey, counting earth worms for a U.K. Wide  investigation.

 

We will be submitting the total mass of the worms gathered as well as the individual length of each worm. This will help investigate the impact of availability of food source on the population of wild birds locally.

What's not to like about an investigation when you get to play with worms!!!

Fund Raising For Iceland

 

Saturday morning was spent at the local Baptist Church's Summer Fete and Table Top Sale. 

We raised money for the Iceland trip in July by selling produce grown on the allotment, items made by pupils and Mr Rookes old DVD collection.

The rhubarb was very popular as were Mrs Hendon-John's seedlings, thank you to everyone who helped grow them during the last term. Special thanks to Mrs Hendon-John, Ryan and Ms Waldram for giving over their Saturday morning to help run the stall.

Canine Partners Assembly

Alison, a volunteer from Canine Partners came into school to deliver an assembly on how assistance dogs can help people with a range of disabilities. As a school, we have been looking at how assistance dogs can positively change lives for some disabled people from wheelchair users to people with PTSD.
