Healthy High 5-Silver Award

This term we have been awarded the Silver Award for Healthy High 5!

Miss Long is extremely happy about this and thankful for all the hard work the staff and pupils  have put in for us to achieve this😀😀😀

Lets keep up the good work and maintain our silver award and strive for gold in the Summer term.

(Remember that pupils cam suggest ideas for their HH5 lessons and take responsibility to fill out their log sheets in their classrooms)

Year 7 Swimming

Year 7 are coming to the end of their first course of swimming and have been amazing!

 ASA swimming awards have been achieved, water polo played,  life saving skills practiced, stroke technique perfected and confidence gained particularly in deep water! 

Well done to all pupils. 

I cant wait to see you take part in the annual swimming gala in the summer term!  

 

RE Meditation and mindfulness

 Year 9 have been learning about the Eightfold Path in RE. We have been exploring different ways to practice meditation to ease suffering. Here are the boys taking a moment to clear their thoughts and take part in following 5 minute mindfulness meditations for teens. 

We have discussed that "You cant stop the waves, but you can learn to surf".

Goodbye Mr Fisher!

We are all very sad to see Mr Fisher leave The Polygon team today so he can work closer to home. He has been an amazing asset to the school and will be very missed by all staff and pupils. 

3DRB wanted to say goodbye with a special party, complete with party food, balloons and party games which they organised themselves!

Well done 3DRB on such a great send off for Mr Fisher!

 

Easter Egg Hunt

Despite a little bit of rain our whole school Easter Egg Hunt went ahead today!

Pupils had to find an egg hidden on the school ground with a curriculum focused question on. Once the pupils solved the question they had to report to Miss Kinder to confirm the answer to be allowed through to the egg collection room where they had the choice of an amazing selection of Easter Eggs!

Well done for everyone who participated and won an Egg today we wish everyone a very Happy Easter! 

 

Year 8 - Flowol

 Year 8 - Flowol

Building on their work form earlier in Year 8, pupils have been learning how to use Flowol. In this programme pupils need to create flow charts to control 'mimic' pictures. These mimics have switches and preset movements. They have controlled traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, cot mobiles and train sets.

Year 7 - Micro:bit

 Year 7 - Micro:bit

This term the pupils in Year 7 have been learning how to programme Micro:bits.

This involves writing a string of code and downloading it to the Micro:bit processors. They then run the programmes from a battery pack.

Pupils have made emojis, name badges, teleporting duck using radio frequency and light sensors.

Year 8 Food Studies

 

Year 8 had fun making bread rolls, we found a recipe that avoided having to prove the dough.

The boys showed off their skills to Mr Penfold during a lesson observation, they were able to tell him that bread is a carbohydrate and that flour is made from wheat. We even did a little bit of maths when we divided the dough into 8 equal parts!

 Food Studies

This week Year 7 have been making pizzas from scratch, they learnt that bread dough needs kneading for a long time! They were amazed that the dough doubled in size when left to prove. Some went traditional, making pepperoni pizza, others added peppers, mushrooms and olives. Well done Year 7.

RE - The Good Samaritan

Year 8 have been studying the concept of Agape. 

Today we learnt the story of The Good Samaritan. We saw some excellent acting and understanding of the story. 

Well done to 3DRB for dressing up and being creative with their learning in RE today!
