I have no words to express how proud I am of our whole school community so for once I'm going to keep it short and just say a massive thank you for everyone's support today and let the photos do the rest of the talking!

Pride at The Polygon

The Polygon School is proud to announce that our school community will be celebrating School Diversity Week 21st-25^th June. 

As part of our efforts to ensure our school environment is a place where every child can realise their potential, we will be joining tens of thousands of pupils and teachers taking part in School Diversity Week across the country to celebrate equality in our school and LGBTQ+ education.

Our school council have decided the way in which they would like to celebrate this is a non-school uniform day on Wednesday 23rd June.  This is optional for pupils and there is NO charge as this is a celebration of the diversity in our school not for a charity.

We hope you will support the school in celebrating Schools Diversity Week and the education of LGBTQ+. Growing up remains unacceptably tough for LGBTQ+ young people 40% contemplate suicide, 50% self-harm and 96% still hear homophobic remarks. This has a potentially life-long impact on young people’s attainment and wellbeing. Alongside our anti-bullying and safeguarding policies, taking part in School Diversity Week is an important way of actively supporting LGBTQ+ young people in our school and demonstrating our commitment to an inclusive school environment where every young person can be themselves and thrive. It is a chance to explain to all our students the importance of diversity in the world we are preparing them for.

Summer Pop up Shop!

After the success of our Winter 'Pop up Shop' we are back with requests from pupils and school council for a Summer shop!

I am very excited to let you all know this will be happening tomorrow! 

During your PSHE and RE lessons and Games Club at break times you will all have the chance to visit the shop and pick up some great summer clothes!

Discount Supermarket coming to Bitterne for Key Workers and families claiming FSM

 

ATTENTION PARENTS AND CARERS!

A SUPERMARKET chain that sells surplus food at low-cost prices is coming to Southampton! 

Company Shop Group, which prevents food and other products going to waste, is opening a store at Campana House in Hawkeswood Road, Bitterne Manor, in August.

Working with major retailers Company Shop redistributes surplus food and household products, often selling them at half the normal retail price.

Membership is open to almost almost all key workers, including those in the NHS, the social care system and the armed forces.

The new store - Company Shop Southampton - will extend its membership to people in receipt of means-tested benefits, including families with children receiving free school meals.

All those eligible need to do is sign up for a free membership card online ahead of the store's opening.

A Company Shop spokesperson said: "All the products sold are in date and perfectly good to eat or use but are deemed ‘surplus’ and may have otherwise gone to waste due to incorrect labelling, seasonal packaging or overstock among many other reasons.

Steph McGinty, managing director at Company Shop Group, added: "We can’t wait to open Company Shop Southampton and bring our offer to the region during a critical period when it is more important than ever to give communities extra support".

Members of the Polygon Team welcomed a Volunteer Taskforce during the May/June Half Term.

Jason Evans and the team from SCC Communications Team kindly volunteered to help get the School Allotment ready for the Summer.

The task force volunteers worked extremely hard in the hot sunshine to improve the Allotment Area.  The main requirements for the day were to relocate the Poly Tunnel from the shaded area into a more suitable location within the allotment, where it would get a good amount of Sunshine throughout the day.

The task force also weeded the whole allotment, added wood chippings and paving slabs to make it a more user-friendly space.

Thank you to all that helped - It was a long, tiring but very worthwhile day.  The allotment looks amazing!!

Weekly Lateral Flow Tests (LFT's)

 

Polygon School vs Covid-19

Here at the Polygon School the safety and well being of our Pupils and Staff is paramount.

The school has been carrying out Lateral Flow Testing since 4th January 2021 and will continue to carry out weekly lateral flow testing for Pupils and twice-weekly lateral flow testing for Staff.

The school is also asking Pupils and Staff to carry on the Lateral Flow Testing during the School Holidays.

All testing kits are being provided to Pupils/Staff on the last day of each term.

Launch of "Kooth" Digital counselling and emotional well-being service for 11 – 25 years old

 

Kooth is a free online counselling and emotional well-being support service providing young people aged 11-25 years (up to 26^th birthday) in Hampshire with a safe and secure means of accessing support with their emotional health and wellbeing needs from a professional team of qualified counsellors. By accessing Kooth young people can benefit from:

·         A free, confidential, anonymous and safe way to receive support online.

·         Out of hours’ availability. Counsellors are available from 12noon to 10pm on weekdays and 6pm to 10 pm at weekends, every day of the year on a drop in basis.

·         Online Counselling from a professional team of BACP qualified counsellors is available via 1-1 chat sessions or messaging on a drop in basis or via booked sessions.

·         Discussion Boards which are all pre-moderated allow young people to access peer to peer support.

·         Online Magazine full of moderated articles many of which are submitted by young people offering advice and guidance on a huge range of topics.

·         No referral is required.  Young people can register for Kooth independently at www.kooth.com
