The Stretch Programme at Longdown Activity Farm

Cieran enjoyed being a farmer for the day at Longdown Activity Farm. He was particularly fond of collecting the chicken eggs and found a total of 15 eggs throughout the day. Cieran enjoyed the go karts and even beat Miss Mitchell in a race around the track. We participated in small animal handing, holding chicks, rabbits and guinea pigs. All involved had a great day learning about the animals dietary requirements, care and appropriate handling techniques. Cieran also learnt that ducklings aren't ideal house pets!

PSHE - Knife Crime Poetry

KS4 pupils have been studying Knife Crime in PSHE. Last week we were shocked at Jermaine Jenas's BBC documentary 'Britain's Teenage Knife Wars' and after the weekends tragic events in London where a pregnant Mother died we decided to show our respect through writing a poem.

Killings are ferocious and demeaning,
Night time slaughters never ending,
Increasing bloodshed and heartbreak,
Fear spreading like an uncontrollable disease,
Everyone affected by choice or unwillingly,
Crime flooding our streets with anarchy,
Reassurance needed by the concerned public,
Innocence civilians run cold with fear,
Morals diminished leaving Mothers weeping,
Everyone must act now!

Attendance Award at St Mary's Stadium

Southampton Football Club have been running an attendance initiative all year. The scheme was launched in collaboration with Southampton City Council and made available to pupils in primary, secondary and specialist provisions across the city.

Throughout the yearlong scheme each school was able to nominate two pupils from their school, one who has shown outstanding attendance (Alfie) and one who has shown a marked improvement in their attendance (Jack).

Both received a gift for being nominated and were entered for an additional larger prize of a tour at the Stadium.

In April Alfie received notice that he had won a place on the stadium tour to take place on May 10th just before their final home game of the season against Huddersfield FC.

Alfie had a fantastic time at the stadium. There was a tour of changing rooms and media centre, plus he even got a chance to get a photo by the pitch.

A week to celebrate our year 11 pupils!

This week we are celebrating our year 11 pupils!

Outstanding extended writing in RE!

Today we have seen some fantastic extended writing in RE lessons.

This term our concept in RE has been 'death'. We have discussed what death means to us, whether we believe in near death experiences, ghosts, mediums and past lives.

We have looked at different religious and cultural perspectives and what they believe happens when we die. We have also discussed different types of funerals, services and celebrations including Mexican Day of the Dead.

Today pupils had an opportunity to evaluate everything they had learnt and give their opinion while showing respect to others with different views.

I am extremely proud of the work KS3 pupils have produced and the respect shown. Well done KS3 great writing!

As a treat for completing our evaluations we decorated biscuits like Mexican Day of the Dead sugar skulls!

Theatre Trip - Silent Mind

Our PSHE department was lucky enough to receive an invitation to watch a free showing of the fantastic and moving play Silent Mind.

The play was an interactive piece raising awareness on mental health issues with young people. The play explores the lives of four strangers as they try to embark on their own journey of self discovery. Silent Mind explores how when you reach a crossroad in life, there are always two very different options. The outcome can be decided both consciously or unconsciously.

All staff and pupils who attended the play were impressed by the acting and singing throughout the production. If you like music we all highly recommend googling Elleana as she was outstanding and thought the play was very relevant to today's society and issues young people face.

Above is one of the affirmations we received from the actors of the play.

Thank you for inviting us we really appreciate the opportunity!

King Alfie, enjoying some theatre fun!
