Healthy High 5 (HH5) with 3BR

As part of our HH5 lesson last week we took a walk up to Watts Park to look at the war memorial. We were looking to see how many of each of our surnames we could see on the plaques. Miss Long had the most common surname-we found 4 "Longs"!
After that we  took a mindful stroll back to school, stopping to play and climb the trees.

Standing Ovation 'Young Gentlemans' Project

At the start of the new school term, a selection of pupils from our key stage 4 class took part in the Standing Ovation 'Young Gentlemans' Project. For one session a week, over 10 weeks the students spent time with Leon, their mentor for the project.

During these sessions,  our pupils talked through life experiences, learning to become the best version of themselves and using correct and proper social etiquette in situations, helping them to become young gentlemen.

At the end of the project, our pupils were presented with a Young Gentlemens tie which were presented to them by Leon in front of parents, teachers and younger students in the school . Once the students recieved their ties each of them gave a small speech to the people watching, explaining what completed the project meant to them personally.

KS4 Southampton City College Visit

KS4 Southampton City College Visit

Pupils from KS4 recently visited Southampton City College as part of our Careers Curriculum and Transition Plan.

Pupils visited Construction, Heating and Engineering, Painting and Decorating and Hospitality. This visit enabled pupils to look at their local college and the facilities on offer as well as ask any questions to the admissions team.

Southampton City College will be visiting the school again this half term to meet the pupils face to face and build a transition plan for the pupils that will be attending there from September 2022.

Our thanks go to to staff at the college for taking the time to show the pupils around.

January is to think about the following

January is to think about the following:

Reboot The Future

Compassionate Values

Question:

Do you treat people and the planet in the way you’d like to be treated?

This question should have a pretty simple approach if we just focus on the first part of the question. We are firstly taught and reminded where ever we go to always treat those how we would like to be treated.

Think about it…

When we are younger it’s a pretty simple approach as we are less influenced by others and the media projected to us on a daily basis. However, there are studies that have happened that have mixed reports on human behaviours. You can find there is natural behaviours among all studies where you find a group of people behaving fairly and in other groups there being slight divides in attitudes. This does not mean this ‘natural human behaviour’ in studies is acceptable. It is simply behaviour traits we have learnt from copying others in those situations and whether people are more likely to be easily lead into behaving in a manner in not treating people fairly or how they would like to be treated.

If we are able to educate ourselves and others, then we are able to evolve and move into a healthier future in regards to respecting others and ourselves.

Things that don’t show respect:

Stereotyping

Bullying

Inappropriate comments

Discrimination

Gossip

On another note…

If you see someone treating you in a certain way that you may not feel is right, do you tend to look at the way you treat them?

Answer:

If you are treating the person in a negative manner, then it is only fair that they person is responding in the same way as you.

Reason:

The fact that you have treated someone a certain way will only give them access to treat you the way you respond to them.

Resolution:

Treat everyone equally and fairly like you would like them to treat you. It works both ways.

Questions:

Have you treated someone the way you want to be treated?

Is this treatment fair and kind?

If yes…

If you are then this is the right attitude to have and you will find day to day life a lot easier with this approach.

If No…

Revert back to the ‘On another note’ part

Question:

Is it okay to gossip?

Answer:

There are arguments to whether it’s okay to talk about people behind their back. It’s really not okay to spread gossip for malicious intent. The moral of the story is, ‘If you’ve nothing nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all’

It might be funny or give yourself the satisfaction to seem far more superior to those who have fallen under you gossip. However, it does not give you right to share information when you do or don’t have the full story.

The fact that talking and gossip happens it’s hard to identify where the line is but here are a few tips.

When is it okay to talk about someone else?

When you are a victim

You are concerned about someone

When it’s in their best interests

Advise:

1. How about you speak to the person you intend on sharing information about with your friends.

2. Don’t meddle in other people’s lives unless they are okay with it

3. Ask for their consent in the matter. If you can’t do that then this is a great way to not start the gossip in the first place.

Question:

What is consent?

Answer:

This is whereby the person involved in the situation deems it’s okay or give permission for something to happen.

Question:

Do you have rights to access someone else’s business?

Answer:

This question is the same in the terms of the gossip chapter. If the person is related or your true friend then it’s okay in some terms. But always ask if it’s okay.

Question:

What is being compassionate?

Answer:

Being compassionate means imagining how other people feel and behaving in a way that makes them feel better.

Showing compassion is a powerful way to build understanding and friendship and to stop arguments. When we treat other people and the planet kindly, in the way that we would like to be treated, it also makes us feel good and inspires others to do the same. It can be harder to be as compassionate online as you would be in person because it is harder to understand a person’s feelings when you can’t see them, or their situation.

At the end of the day it’s about having respect.
