Saints LGBTQ+

It was great to have Jordan and Josh from the Saints Foundation in to support our Pride month!

Jordan was impressed with the pupils knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community. Pupils were respectful, open minded and left prejudgment's at the door!

All pupils understood what LGBTQ+ stands for, discussed national statistics and how coming out is a lifelong process.

We also discussed stereotypes before designing our own versions of the Southampton FC LGBTQ+ warm up shirt.

Well done to all pupils that have taken part in workshops today!

Queens Canopy for the Platinum Jubilee planting tree

Tree Planting With PR and HI

We all worked as a team to dig a new home for the Platinum Jubilee Tree!

Marking the area to set up how big the hole needs to be, using the shovel. Ensuring the area circle was at least 1/4 bigger than the tree bag.

It took a little while and lots of graft to be able to dig the actual hole. The pupils had to make sure it was at least twice a deep as the tree soil in the bag.

We went back and forth so many times to take the extra soil from making the hole for the tree. We worked together and took turns in taking it to a compost area.

Before putting the tree into the hole we watered the area so that the tree was able to have moist soil when planting and to settle with the mixed soil in the ground compared to the soil in the bag it came in.

To give the Tree the best TLC and comfort in having the best chances of thriving, we used fresh compost after inserting the tree into it new home.

HI looking extremely proud working together as a team and took so much care towards the tree knowing it was a delicate process.

PR were also happy with their efforts.

Dental hygiene in PSHE

Year 7 have been discussing dental hygiene this week. The pupils have been honest about how often they brush their teeth and visit the dentist and we have all decided to work a bit harder on this!

Armed with their new tooth brushes we got to work straight away!

Great work year 7!

Covid meant we all missed a lot of dental appointments but dentists are back open now so the summer holidays are a great time to get signed up and booked in for those 6 monthly check ups! If you need any help finding a dentist for your child please speak with Mrs Foster for help.

Drugs Education -Buzz workshop

Year 8 and 9 pupils had a really informative and fun lesson with Sarah from Buzz this week!

Sarah’s approach to drugs education is fantastic and all the boys came out with more awareness on how to keep themselves safe and understanding around Illegal drugs.

Swimming KS3

3NA were in full training mode today getting ready for the swimming gala at the end of term!

It’s great to see the boys working hard on their technique, water skills and confidence in the deep all while having fun!

Excellent work!

Queens Canopy for the Platinum Jubilee planning

A huge thank you to the Friends of the Polygon for their generous donation, so that we as a school can celebrate this wonderful event for Her Majesty The Queen.

In January, the whole school took part in a questionnaire to have their say in what tree they would like to see on the school grounds.

Miss Burton put together questions in regards to what type of tree, where the tree would be planted, and what sort of plague to celebrate the Queens Jubilee.
The first question was the tree, Miss Burton researched different types of trees that were traditional English trees. After meetings with The Friends of the Polygon it was recommended that we wanted to make sure we chose a selection that would have a life span as longer than 200 years, meaning it would benefit the the environment but also mark the jubilee for centuries to come.

It was discussed the thought of having a flowering tree to add in to the school environment but flowering trees only tend to survive no more than 70 years and require certain soils and environment to bloom.

The options were as follows below.

Question 2 was to asked about what type of plaque would suit the tree chosen. The Majority vote was Gold.

Example of one class votes.
Votes tally for whole school.

The final votes were that the tree was to be planted in the front of the school, with a gold Plaque. The tree chosen was a Red Horn Beam. The majority vote was that because we couldn't have a flowering tree due to the short life span, and we would ideally like generations to look upon this tree and remember, We went for the next tree that would give a vibrant color.
