Year 7 Transition advice from pupils

It's that time of year when we will be welcoming our new year 7's into school for their transition days. Our current year 7 pupils have been reflecting on their last year in PSHE and would like to give Year 6's coming up in September some advice and tell them about their experiences over the last year!

" Starting secondary school can be hard because you feel a bit small compared to the KS4 boys. It's not like primary school when you were the oldest but once you get to know them they are alright"

"At The Polygon you move around classes and have a fresh start each lesson"

"ICT in the computer room is cool and you can go in there for break and activities"

"We do lots of Outdoor learning and go to Forest Schools and Swimming"

"If you don't go to class or go to class but don't do your work you get catch up instead of your activities"

"You can make food and take it home for your family in Food Studies"

"We went to the Mayflower Theatre and saw the Lion King which was really good"

"I got to go to Iceland which was great"

"I got to go on good school trips like Iceland and you get lots of opportunities to do cool stuff"

"If you show respect and complete your work you get points and you can get amazon gift cards"

"Our school dog is really cool and called Finn"

Eco Schools - Water Saving Tips

 Eco Schools

In our recent School Council & Eco School meeting we discussed our action points as a school for our Green Flag. One area for improvement is under the heading WATER. We currently score 6/10 on this area. Pupils discussed how we should le the wider school community know about how water is used in the home and how people could help reduce water wastage.

The graphic above shows how water is used in a typical home. Is this the same in your home?

There is also a considerable amount of water wasted in homes.

Here are some tips for saving water.

1. Put a full plastic bottle in your toilet cistern, each flush will have less water in it.

2. Take shorter showers

3. Turn off the water while washing your teeth,

4. Use a dishwasher for full loads only.

5. Keep a water bottle in the fridge so you don't run the tap for cold water.

Working Your Maths Memory

During Maths lessons we focus on improving our ability to remember and apply what we have previously learned.

We find this enables our learners to work with increased independence and confidence, developing their self-esteem as learners.

The picture shows Year 7 children independently recording their responses during a Maths assessment. Their outcomes were excellent, well done for recalling your previous learning so effectively.
