Safe Spaces
We have been lucky enough to have Faye from In Focus visit us over the last two weeks to deliver two photography sessions with the theme of 'Safe Spaces'. This was delivered as part of a research project for the university.
The session started with a fun game where pupils had to eliminate postcards by asking questions that could only be answered with either a yes or a no. The engagement was excellent and pupils made it more difficult by setting themselves a limit on the number of questions they could ask. Pupils the engaged in a discussion around the topic of 'Safe Spaces'. Pupils were to give their opinions on what a safe space is and what this looked like to them. Everyone contributed to the discussion and as a result they created some brilliant mind maps. From these mind maps, Faye picked 4 fours which was then the inspiration for the pictures they were going to go out and take. Faye then handout some camera, taught the boys the basics and they headed outside.
The boys enjoying taking photos of Finn our school dog.
The Yr 7s learning how to use there cameras.
Oscar always looking for the best angle.
The boys sharing there pictures with each other and Faye.
After spending some time outside being imaginative and creative with their photography it was time to head back inside to narrow down their favourite four pictures to print.
Everyone the sat down and shared the pictures they had taken and reflected on how this linked to the four key words they had been given. I was really impressed with the sensible responses that Faye was getting. Everyone worked really hard an had some lovely pictures to take home, well done!
