AI in education conference

On February 5th the ICT department was invited to attend a conference at Solent University around Artificial Intelligence and potential opportunities and challenges that it presents in education.

This was a fantastic CPD opportunity for staff and a chance to ask some experts in the field for their ideas as to how The Polygon School could benefit from using AI at the school.

We learned the AI is now more intelligent that an ant and a rat, but is a long way from matching that of humans. This is despite the fact that AI programs like Chat GPT4 have read nearly all text from human history!

Some of the positives to AI include:

- Being able to personalise learning

- Greater engagement through interaction and curiosity

 - More staff time due to efficiency with admin tasks

However there are drawbacks that we must be aware of:

- Privacy concerns around sharing any student data

- Ethical considerations around bias and discrimination in outputs

Thank you to Solent University for inviting the ICT department
