Engagement Programme at SoCo Music

 

 

 

 

We have been very fortunate to link up with SoCo Music based at Hightown Community Centre for a 2 year project involving pupils and staff in order to give our pupils musical based experiences over a sustained period of time.

 Pupils from our Engagement Centre are learning and experiencing different aspects of music production this term on a weekly basis.

On our first week we had a lyric writing session based around the word "Hope". This week pupils used a Music maker app on the ipad to create their own tracks.

Sun's Out!

This week we have been enjoying the lovely weather we have been having by taking our learning outside!

We are fortunate to have some great outdoor spaces on site and everyone has had chance to utilise and appreciate them.

Art lessons have involved sketching what you see around you.

Many pupils have read on the benches.

And the playground has seen many great games of cricket in PE.

Let's hope this good weather continues through till summer!

Saints vs. Newcastle Match- Reward Trip

On Saturday 9^th April, 2 pupils and 2 members of staff were lucky enough to attend the Saints vs. Newcastle football match. 

As if this wasn’t exciting enough they watched the game as guests in the Premier Leagues executive box!

 

Alfie, as the highest point scorer in year 7 last half term, and Leon, as the year 8 pupil with the least amount of time out of his lessons last half term, were invited to go along with Mr Rooke and Miss Moul.

 

We arrived at the stadium 2 hours before kick-off to enjoy a delicious 3 course meal and plenty of J20’s, before watching the game from our padded seats outside the box.

 

 

Both boys looked very smart and were fantastically behaved throughout the day, representing the school exceptionally well.

 

 

They also received goodie bags from The Saints Foundation, who offered us this amazing experience in partnership with The Premier League.

 

 

We all had a brilliant day and would like to thank Steve Bollon at The Saints Foundation for offering us this great opportunity! Also, thanks to the staff and pupils from The Rowans School, who we were sharing the box with, for helping to make our day a very enjoyable one.

Easter Holiday GCSE Revision Clubs!

 

It was fantastic to come in over the Easter Holidays and work with so many boys who wanted to develop their self-knowledge and self-confidence ready for exams this summer.

 

The thought of exams can be daunting and it’s much easier to bury your head in the sand rather than make an effort to revise so a big well done!   I was so impressed by the efforts of all the boys who came in and I know I speak for all the staff when I say we are very proud of you!

 

Thank you Ms Brobson for an amazing lunch both days we were spoilt! 

 

 

Easter Holidays Visit to the Mayflower Theatre

During the Easter Holidays the Polygon Boys went to see Gangsta Granny at the theatre. This is a book that year 8 have read together and really enjoyed!

It was a brilliant show and we all had great fun!

 

Wear a hat day!

In the last week before Easter as part of Brain Tumour awareness month, the staff and pupils learnt about Brain Tumour Research and participated in 

Wear a Hat Day on Wednesday 23rd.

This is a national charity event raising awareness and funds for Brain Tumour Research.

The pupils learnt about the charity and it’s current funding as well as who brain tumours can affect.

Everyone showed great interest and enthusiasm in supporting the event.

There was opportunity to buy pin badges and wristbands and on the day everyone was 

welcome to wear a hat or a piece of head wear to show support and make a small donation. Some pupils even donated their personal Vivo points to the charity.

It was a very successful day and everyone enjoyed participating. The Polygon school raised over £100 and showed outstanding support and awareness for this great cause.
