Shedding Some Light in the Allotment

There's been some shady goings on in the allotment.  Mrs Ash and Mrs Newman have been busily cutting back some bushes to allow the fruit plants more light.

The nettle bushes are a good source of nitrogen so will go into the compost.

Hopefully, it won't be long until we see the fruits of their labour!

Learning at Engagement Centre Morris House

Over the past few months the boys at Morris House have been busy taking part in Forest School at Itchen valley Country Park with Youth Options where they have learnt fire building skills and become quite the pros. The boys have enjoyed toasting marshmallows over campfires and cooking sausages as well as making their own bow and arrows along with much more.

The Pupils at Morris House have also taken part in visiting Art Galleries and Museums around the local area these included the Tudor House Museum, Sea City Museum, Southampton Art Gallery and the John Hansford Gallery. The boys really enjoyed these trips and learning some history about Southampton. The Mirza Haroum expedition was a hit with all the boys, they enjoyed the immersive experience so much that one pupil took back with him what he learnt and created a cylinder in his art lesson to feel like you were having an experience inside a forest.

Just before school partially-closed the boys at Morris house started their NIBAS climbing award at Boulder Shack where they will learn key climbing skills and gain a qualification. We look forward to returning there to complete their award soon.

Exploring Happiness with Laughology

Yesterday I did some on line training to learn how to help support the pupils emotionally when they return to school.

I learned that laughter is a really good tonic to help all people.

I will be asking the boys “what happiness means for them” to see if we can include some ideas in to the school day.

However, “happiness is a day under my duvet” will not be actioned!

We will work together on making sure that “Wonky thoughts” are worked through.

The school places a great emphasis on emotional health and well being.

#TwoPointSixChallenge Polygon School Results

On Monday 27th April the Polygon school community came together to participate in the two point six challenge in order to raise money for City Catering in Southampton. Our target as a team was to cover the distance of 2.6 marathons which would have been 67.6 miles.

We are so impressed with the effort from everyone and it just shows how strong our team is during these challenging times. Thank you everyone for taking part.

So the results... We SMASHED it with a total of 99.48 miles covered! Well done team Polygon and everyone else who took part in our wider community. Please see the pictures below which celebrate everyone's achievements.

The Polygon School are taking part in the 2.6 Challenge to help raise money for Southampton City Catering

Sunday the 26th April would have been the date of the London Marathon, many charities across the UK rely on the income generated by such a massive fundraising event. Last year alone the marathon raised £66.4 million pounds. 

In these difficult times charities are being hit hard and are losing out on vital funding streams. 

As a Polygon School community, we would like to take part in the 2.6 Challenge and support our partner City Catering (registered charity number 1160776) who are currently working around the clock to continue to feed families in Southampton.

Our aim is to collectively walk, run or cycle the minimum distance of the London Marathon (26 miles).  However it would be even better if 26 people could run/walk/cycle 2.6 miles each- this would mean we would  cover 2.6 marathons which is just over 68 miles! 

We are asking for all member of our community to participate on Monday 27th April (The day after the London Marathon).

We would like to collect pictures to celebrate our achievements so please send your photographs into info@polygon.southampton.sch.uk. I know as a staff team many of us will be running at school and from home. 

Remember to follow the government guidelines and keep a social distance!

If you are unable to get out and run, walk or jog please participate in anyway you can. This could be by making posters, climbing stairs, sit ups or anything that involves the number 26 or 2.6!
